Replacements in summer - who was better than those who left?

Id have kept Nuhiu and Lee - and Hutchinson.

Hutchinson would have been the perfect back up this season and could have covered at both Centre Half and in midfield.  If Luongo continues to be fit in sporadic phases Hutch would have been the perfect squad player. It might have helped him stay fit too

And I would have definitely pulled out all the stops to keep Fox and Fletcher - rather than offering them insulting 70% reductions on their salaries

‘ hutch’ this season has spent 50 minutes flailing around a Cypriot pitch before nearly removing the leg of an opponent.

The disgraced fletcher is a big miss of course. A fine player.

Monk had a say in every single signing this summer,  think whilst we obviously have a recruitment team in place it’s a bit daft to assume the manager has no responsibility in the signings

That defeat yesterday in the long run will show Pulis what he needed to see instead of papering over the cracks of what a huge job this is,  we’ve got a very unbalanced poor squad that needs a lot of work and investment for any manager to be successful here , but in the short term it’s the injuries that will kill us and we will struggle until this is resolved as TP alluded to

We have a No1 who has forgotten how to kick the ball and his best days are more than likely behind him,  a huge issue with full backs , one decent central midfielder in Luongo , Bannan and Reach look lost and the forward department is literally non existent

Huge job

Nuhiu is a completely different kind of forward to Windass so your comparison doesn’t work there. Also, Brown has been injured probably just as much or maybe more than Lee would have been so Brown isn’t really a replacement (particularly when you consider the quality that Lee brought).

Nuhiu is different to Windass, no doubt, but I’m saying Windass is “better”, it’s not a comparison.

For Brown to be less fit than Lee will take some doing. He’d need to be out for the rest of this season and that hopefully won’t happen, fingers crossed, as we desperately need him.

We don't have a recognised left-back.

I reckon Fox is better than that.

:duntmatter:

The left back situation is scandalous. Fox was our only left-back for about 2 years and yet we never signed anyone else. We resorted to playing Palmer there a number of times last season. Now we've let Fox go and still haven't signed anyone.

Monk must have been thinking 3 at the back with no plan B would be fine.

Again, with -12 points who did you think we could have recruited?

The better players from Leagues One and Two. They would jump at the chance. Instead we get the players that struggle to get into their own club sides in Marriott, Windass and Paterson.

The best players at League One level will cost money no?

Windass did well on loan last season and most fans were happy with his signing from what we saw back end of last season. But now he’s crap cos he’s not set the world alight?

They do cost money but the teams that do well tend to pick up the odd gem from lower leagues. We never go down this road.

Point me to a player a Championship club has signed this year from League 1 or 2 who has proven to be a gem and didn’t cost a lot of money.

And point me to the players from League 1 or 2 you’d have liked us to realistically bring to the football club.

It’s alright saying this but who was available and who would have improved us.

I certainly wasn’t With no other interested clubs, why the hell did we think it wise to pay money for him and Paterson?

we’ve scored 1 goal in our last 6 games - and that was a penalty. Results won’t turn if we can’t score. Any criticism is fair. 6 in 12 is pathetic.

No but we need to draw a line after Millwall as it’s now a new regime. Pointless going on about how crap we were under Monk, everyone knows he was finished here by February but for some reason was allowed to stay until

November.

So we’re one game in to the new regime, and that game was 10 vs 11 for 75 mins and we matched Preston other than one keeping error. We should reserve judgement until we’ve had a run of games and not had the misfortune of a red card, silly or otherwise

It was often 10v11 under Monk as well Same old same old, and no doubt the excuses will be as well

Marriott fitted in to the category he’s describing two years ago.. lower league, doing well, young etc. He cost a fee which would be beyond us. And he struggled at Derby which was why he was allowed to come here. There’s no free wins to be had picking up lower league players.. some work and some don’t
