Jordan Rhodes

Recommended Posts

Just listening to P&G, Warne talking about his young striker: mentions goals and confidence.

Its not happened for Rhodes, many supporters blame previous managers (bizarrely in my opinion), but we’re here again. I don’t care who scores goals for us, but it unlikely to be him.

Cant be good for his mental health, can’t sell him, seems like he’ll run his contract down. You’d hope they’d be in talks about termination of his contract - a mutual agreement, which in hindsight they should have done 2 years ago.

Yes he is our only recognised striker, but it’s obvious that answer doesn’t wash with Pulis.

Poor decision to swap him for Izzy Brown at centre-forward though. Humiliating for Rhodes and of no help to the team.

A weird move which must mean TP doubts whether JR is as good as an attacking midfielder at holding the ball and keeping possession when settling for a point. A defensive midfielder would have been more understandable but Pelupessy is not good at it either.

It’s in the presser thread about halfway thru. Really enjoyable watch.

Says the modern game up front is pace, power and getting in behind.

My man Rhodes doesnt fit that does he?

I maintain he’s the best we have right now, but I’m certain Pulis will buy to fit that description.

Rhodes has nothing left to give unless the ball to him is perfect

Virtually all goals are scored from inside the box and many from less than 10-12 yards out. We never get into those positions, and don’t seem to have any plan that gets us there beyond getting free kicks or corners. No strikers is going to get many goals here.

Give it a few weeks and people will be calling for Rhodes to be given a chance again saying "he just needs a run of games" nuts

Which striker are you advocating should get a run of games?

Paterson - 1 goal

Windass - 1 goal and a 16 minute red

Kachunga - 0 goals

Over the last two games we've looked better with him on the pitch. No major individual contributions but always challenging centre backs and it seems to suit Paterson playing deeper.

Brown offers nothing for me and just gives ball and free kicks away

Moving on from Rhodes for a moment, yes I agree Brown has been surprisingly disappointing so far.

We knew he’d miss games, but I thought he’d contribute far more when fit.

not advocating anything. Just pointing out the mentality of a large number of people on here that seem to go round in circles.

Rhodes doesn't get a game for a while and he's suddenly the potential answer.

Manager then plays him for a few games, does nothing, fans then realise he's past it and want him out

manger drops him

then after a bit the cycle starts again.

My version of that is different.

Rhodes plays and the team do well. (Look it up.)

Rhodes gets dropped.

Team does less well. (Look it up)

Some posters say we were better with Rhodes

Other posters say he cost £9m and was crap in 2016/17

You can do that for any player though.

We have won 3 games, Rhodes played in 1 of them, Windass played in 2 of them.

It doesn't make either player better than the other.

No you can’t.

You are selecting 3 games. I’ve used every game this season and last with and without Rhodes. Take a look.

We just don't and have never had the players than can provide JR with the opportunities he needs. I don't remember him really spurning a golden chance in the last couple of years. Added to that, he's almost 31 so he's not the same player who banged them in at Hudds and Blackburn at all.

1 goal in his last 37 league appearances at Hillsborough is tragic.

What I'm saying is just because a player is in a team that wins doesn't mean he is a good player or he has performed well.

Said player could stand still all game and the team still win but he wouldn't have contributed to it.
