Stop blaming the players - it’s Monk

Recommended Posts

Monk could have Liverpool’s squad and it would go wrong.

He has blasted the players for mistakes and lack of effort time and time again. Many fans have lapped this up - evident yesterday with chants of “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” echoing round Hillsborough.

Of course players have good days and bad days and they make mistakes. But for me the manager has to take full responsibility for our current position. The players look lost. They are frustrated at the tactics.

They aren’t performing because they are trying to make a broken formula work.

You could argue Monk has had a bad deal without his own coaching team but we were warned about this happening by fans of other clubs.

The situation has become critical and Monk has to go. These players confidence is shot and they need someone with new ideas and fresh energy to fix it.

Monk out!

Certain players need to leave and been replaced, Monk isn't the man to do that.

I could give Monk a chance if he had clear playing style and our players just weren't up to it, but there isn't.

Its crap what we are watching. What's the point in bringing in a new squad just for Monk to do nothing with them.

Fully agree but this squad is capable of more.

No doubt. Too late now though. The damage is done. Like I said, DC doesn't take decisive action, he lets failing managers meander on for years after they should have gone.

Sad but true.

Not defending Monk, but you’re way off the mark, the team has no character, bottle, bullocks, call it what you want. As soon as we concede they collapse.

I assure you, it's far worse than Monk being the problem.

It's the players.

It's Monk.

It's the chairman.

We need a near miracle to avoid relegation either this or next season. The fanbase itself will almost certainly need years to recover from the vigorous milking we've received and how fractured we are at the moment.

I agree. I think they are capable of more.

Monk has chopped and changed the side more than Jos.

To play effectively a totally new forward line against Barnsley, (three loanees plus a returning FF) smacked of total desperation.

Starting JP then subbing him off at half time three (?) times suggests he doesn't know who his best midfield players are, (JP certainly isn't one of them.)

And breaking up a decent CD partnership for someone who in his present state of mind simply can't  play football and being very slow to see that it isn't working...

I don't think Monk can make his mind up on who his best players are or how to get the best out of them.

Agree. We conceded first yesterday and then utterly cacked our pants for next 30 minutes which is what led to those two individual errors.

You're absolutely correct. It is all of those issues.

It almost scares me when people can't see this and isolate it down to just the manager.

Absolutely.

But my main point is people laying blame at players and chanting they aren’t fit to wear the shirt is wrong. From what I can see they do try and implement whatever the hell Monk tells them to do but when it doesn’t work he blames the players and he does it publicly. The fans lap it up.

Mistakes happen but they are usually exacerbated by clueless tactics. It’s the manager and sadly the chairman that are to blame.

Monk will not turn this around. Even when we were third, was anyone enjoying it? Were we battering teams? Was Hillsborough ever rocking? Nope.

Some of the players need moving on but Monk is not getting anywhere near the best out of the players at his disposal.

Time and time again we start a game and are wide open due to his tactics but he never seems to learn.

We never seem to have a plan on how to exploit the opponents weaknessses but the other teams know what to target with us.

So why was all the anger aimed at the players then? How is Monk getting away with it?

We have contrived to create the perfect storm.

A clueless Chairman, a poor manager, and senior players 2 years past their best.

This only ends one way. Ask Sunderland.

Watching Lee's yesterday took me back to Sunday league. There would always be a few in the team still a little tanked up and the worse for wear after a big Saturday night in town. Seriously, he was absolutely calamitous and no manager could mitigate for that level of performance.
