THE LOAN DEADLINE DAY THREAD

I thing Fessi has proved he is a very good championship player but does quite make the premiership grade there have been a few good examples of players in the last few season, Bamford great championship striker not made in the the PL, Woods from Leeds sold for £15m but doesn't look anything special in the PL. If we had been offered anything like £15m for Fessi we should have taken it, it would have sorted the FFP issues out and allowed the manager £5m to remodel the squad a bit.

As for Sheff Utd they keep selling of the silverware and not replacing them but they keep producing the silverware and tying them to long contracts so when they sell them the make good money. We could do a lot worse than to follow the same plan you only need one Brookes to pay for 8-10 that don't quite make the grade.

My point was more if sheff utd fail to make the playoffs this season they will blame it in selling there best player as we would have done had we sold Forestieri regardless of fee. we would have just said can't expect to compete if you sell your best players.

Leeds have the same side as last season except Barry Douglas has come in. Granted they’ve also brought Bamford in who’s hardly played and Izzy Brown yesterday.

That group of players had 1 win in 22 games last season. Let’s see how those soft tvvats play like when the pitches are getting harder and when it’s cold and miserable.

Saiz, Alioski, Hernandez all look good in the sunshine, not sure it will be the same when it gets tougher.

Good shout, quality is evident now. Manager may play a big role to make sure it stays

Bielsa's clearly improved them but some of the reservations about his potential appointment could still bear fruit. Such as starting off well but when things aren't going well or the owners don't do things his way, he walks. Also it's noticeable the change of tactics, they seem to play a high energy; pressing, high tempo and possession based game, will they be able to keep that up all season? Do they have the players to keep playing that way or will they run out of gas? They look impressive now but will they still be up there when it matters?

what about Batth? I'd be pleased if we get Hector and Piazon and/or Batth too. Think that would address some of our defensive and physicality issues, plus make us more balanced, dynamic and creative too. Would still like some pace but it would be difficult to address everything at the last minute to be fair.

Signing Batth and Hector would be overkill in my opinion, it’s one or the other

We didn’t let him go though did we? We got screwed by him, his father and his cronies

And their young talent had actually starred and proved himself in the first team. Ours was a lightweight who was nowhere near ready.

But unless he’s gone by the end of today, my view is that he should be 1st choice keeper.

And Westwood should not be used as an excuse for our current financial plight either. Nor any other injured or dropped senior pros.

The reason for our financial situation lies elsewhere. Making players the scapegoats for our financial position is not on, it’s just re-directing blame.

Seems everything that is not great at the moment is down to the players or fans. Nothing to do with the running of the club or appointment of C list managers.

And therein lies the irony as the players we have, and the fans, have the largst influence over our future success, so pehaps best not to upset dressing rooms or fanbases eh? You’d have thought.

Agree he is the best keeper we have and had he been playing against Wigan and Hull we would now have 5 more points but for what ever reason the manager does not want to play him instead playing Dawson who has conceded 8 goals in 5 games.

We need to cut our costs unless we have a new stadium sponsorship deal or shirt deal thats going to bring in millions then we need to find ways to cut expense and our biggest expense is players salaries, Westwood is not to blame for anything he has been a brilliant player for us and I would love him in the team and signed up for 3 more years but its not going to happen with the current set up. He has been frozen out of the team.

Unless he has breached any club disciplinary codes that we don`t know about then i fully agree.

from the football league rule book - the transfer window shut 3 weeks ago we are in a loan window when you can only loan player registered with club unless they have changed the rules this transfer can only happen in a loan deal?

43

Registration of Players

43.1

Unless otherwise permitted by Regulation 43.2, registrations of Players are only permitted during a Transfer Window.

As I understand it, free agents are permitted to sign at any time. I think Emanuelson was signed outside of the window. I think the players do have to be released, however, before the window shuts.

Westwood in any one of the other 23 teams in our league would be in the match day squad if not the starting 11, but we decide to not include him because he is third choice.

At the same time we are in a financial mess because we have too many players on big wages not playing any football - Hutch, Westwood, Abdi, Hooper, Winnall the list goes on. So if he is third choice as our manager has said then loan him out get his wages off the overheads maybe even a fee. But instead we will do jack and let his wages run down to the end of the season its only another £1,000,0000 wasted on a third choice keeper and we wonder how we are losing £20,000,000+ a season.

:Chansiri:

No problem with the logic or reasoning btw. So plussed you. But its one of those where we come at it from a different perspective.

possibly but I thought Hector was versatile? I regret us not being able to sign Fred but still wanted us to sign someone else at the back along with Fred, plus to upgrade our wing backs, before I knew of our embargo and before a few more youngsters broke into the first team picture.

Lets hope they implode as I can’t do with them. They will fair better this season but they aren’t brilliant. Cooper and Berardi at centre half for example. Phillips who plays holding midfield is also crap.

Well they seem to think it's done.

They like a pointless trip to court if not.

But he was not a free agent in a transfer window he has been made a free agent today outside of a transfer window.

If he was release in before the end of the last window he could have sign for anyone anytime but he was not. I would expect this will be a loan to permanent in January if not the the football league will not ratify it as a legal transfer.

I think it will be a loan to permanent in January to get around the rules. The football league did not want the window shutting early so why did we bother changing it is loans could still happen until the end of January

I watched the highlights again of the last 2  games and Thorniley was bloody outstanding.

He’s a bloody good player. I have high hopes for him. He’s got a good size to him physically and nothing seems to phase him. If we play a back 4, he can play left sided centre half or left back this season.

Still would like Danny Batth in to play with Lees tho. We need that experience at the back with a bit of height who also has leadership abilities.

Thorniley will get his chances throughout the season and like I say I really have high hopes for the lad.

Good point, I suppose it depends on whether the term 'loan transfer window' counts as a transfer window, in terms of releasing players. I suppose before they amounted to the same thing as they finished at the same time.

Yes true, although I feel the emergence of Thornley has changed that a little He looked a decent prospect, but I wasn’t sure he was ready for regular Championship football He is though, he looks really assured and is even prepared to take the lead The only slight weakness, is his lack height, but he isn’t bad in the air He just needs to playing alongside someone taller
