Westwood conspiracies

Recommended Posts

I think we had a group of players who had everything their own way under CC which joined with a group who never got a look in under CC.  This group became used to good wages without training or playing over the back end of last season.

Jos sees them and their attitudes day in, day out and he looked to have dond well with those offered the chance at the back end of the season.

The problem we have is that there are too many still around and no new faces to freshen things up which is down to the embargo.

I just hope that the situation soon changes and the youngsters aren't learning too many bad habits.  It sounds like it was all a bit of a holiday camp which is never a problem when you are winning.

DC's biggest failings are misplaced loyalties and a child like naivety.  Things went too well, too quickly before he got to see the reality on many fronts.  When he sought help it came from those who also had their own interests to take care of.

I don't actually think there is anything wrong with the deal in itself unless it influences a players fitness and ability to play which could then clash with other occasions when the player hasn't wanted to play.

Remember that all this was in the context of the ethos CC adopted which came very close to getting us promoted.  However new bosses come new ideas and different ways of working which very often causes problems with players who are more "difficult" to manage.

It isn't Westwood's fault if DC gave him that specific deal, in any job you are going to try to earn as much as you can.

Do you not think a senior member of the squad should be setting an example? Anyone breaks the rules and you'll be dealt with?

Or is KW exempt from the rules and can act how he wants?

Do you think all our other senior players (mainly BB and FF) would stand by and watch another senior pro get treated unfairly?

I don't think the players look overly happy with the situation at the moment, whether or not this is part of that is just speculation. How long do you get made an example of for though? It seems some of our players get frozen out with no hope of a return while others can refuse to travel on the day of the game when their head has been turned but get a bumper new contract not long later - great example set there.

You have nailed it there actually.

if you are trying to get rid of rotten apples, you do need to replace them with fresh ones.

The suggestion that he can cause trouble appears fair enough but if he was 'rotten' do you think other senior members of the squad would have treated him as more of an outsider - there has never seemed to be any suggestion of this.

Some of our 'fresh apples' don't look ripe yet and there is a danger we could be doing them and the club more harm than good by picking them too soon.

Completely agree, this is a good thing. This is the way to forward for me. Wished all our players were on performance and results based contracts. Maybe then we wouldn’t have to put up with the terrible and lifeless performances we’ve had this season. Hell injured players might even come back and recover from their injuries quicker.

As for the he’s trouble business. So was Roy Keane, he could start an argument in an empty phone box but nobody doubted his leadership and quality on the field. I don’t care about any of this stuff Westwood is our best keeper and playing him gives us a better chance of winning a football match it’s that simple for me.

As usual, the fans do not know all the facts. But he has been here a long time, at one time he was worth 12 points a season to the team,  and saw off the previous incumbent, Kirkland, so it would be surprising if he can go out of control and not been worth keeping.

He obviously has a forthright if not  fiery temperament but we have other players who seem difficult,  and even demanding, sometimes when they sign or when they want a new deal. Even Nuhui made some crunching comments about not being appreciated at the time of his new deal in the summer.

I think we had a few who "went sick" in the sense that they addressed any long-term niggles in the second half of last season, not all but some.

Maybe Westwood, his behaviour, his punishment and the club's stance were the catalyst for the above in response to the new way things were going to be.

It is very difficult to take good stuff away that was previously a given in any workplace, more so I'd imagine with footballers.

Injuries can be like sickies for us normal folk.

So what I was told......

He consistently got away with murder under CC and after another conflict in December/January, immediately after CC's departure, it went quite public that his time here was over and agreed by both sides.

We are only paying him a very low weekly wage but he was on a much bigger  amount for a clean sheet bonus based on his record over his first two years here.

This was evidenced to me by both the video clip below and that there have been a good few times he has played with very obvious restrictions through being injured.

The person who told me has an itk connection and is usually trustworthy with his info although it is rarely to do with Wednesday.

https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/why-i-was-glad-to-see-players-hurting-against-aston-villa-jon-newsome-s-sheffield-wednesday-column-1-8847665

I doubt we'll see him again but at the same time he won't actually save us that much in "real terms" financially purely based on his low basic wage and the flip side is his absence is not costing us much either at least financially anyway.

He is definitely no saint though in all this and his recent tweet re. fitness  was most likely aimed at others rather than us.

Hope he gets a move and we get chance to say thanks and we all move on if the above is true.

Gotta love an owlstalk conspiracy bull poo theory that will now become fact!

I can't stop laughing at people who actually believe in this conspiracy.

The Russians were watching in '69 every step of the way, I'm sure they'd have said something if the Yanks hadn't touched down ffs!

Just spend a decent amount on a good telescope and you'll be able to see original moon buggy.

As for Atlantis, been some interesting documentaries regarding once great cities off the North coast of Egypt that are now underwater so this is possible.

Bigfoot? I'm less convinced about.

Any other questions?

Who really shot JFK?

Nuhui is one of the few players that we have dealt with correctly. He was rewarded for performances and goals with a contract, rather than automatically given one.

Anyone who thinks you're not going to get the odd donut in a group of 18-34 year old lads is bonkers.

The trick is handling them and getting the best out of them. Only in extreme cases should they be frozen/booted out.

Westwood has been here a number of years and his form has been great in both a mid table side under SG and a top 6 side under CC. He may have his moments, but is he really such a bad egg that this is the only option?

It’s quite amazing how many on this thread are slagging him off and jumping on the bandwagon.

As fans, we don’t know the full story or

facts. The only facts that I know is that Kieran Westwood has been a brilliant keeper for SWFC, has been named in the PFA team of the year, been our player of the year and has also had a clean sheets record. We are a weaker side without him - no doubt about it.

Have we ever had a period like this when so many players were apparently "frozen out"? Is not being picked being "frozen out" is I suppose the first question.

I would like to think that all players who haven't been picked feel they have been 'frozen' out and take positive steps to 'thaw' out.  By training hard, perfecting their skills, keeping fit, supporting colleagues who are in the first team, follow the manager's instructions, offer their views constructively if they see a better way.

Being professional basically, we can but hope.
