Cant believe I'm agreeing with a team that has Bannan left, but yes this is exactly what I want us to send out too.

Even Kieran surely needs to sit out after his fine comeback. Butters is a natural replacement.

Fletch has to rest. Rhodes is the perfect replacement.

Everyone else did well and no tinkering please.

If this team starts with similar intent we should be far too strong for Brentford.

Finally a fan of Bannan and Reach on the left hand side then.

Was only a matter of time.

Same side- but probably need to make changes a little earlier. Just had 2 weeks off, so should be able to handle 2 games in 4 days.

Sounds like Brentford performed well at Villa yesterday so I wouldn't want to 'rest' players unless it was absolutely necessary.

Villa Talk in total meltdown - lots calling for Bruce to go.

Post from Villa Talk.....

Brentford are a small club with no money at all. They have just had to sell their best three players in the last week of the transfer window, and yet they totally dominated us in front of an angry and embarrassed Villa Park crowd.

They didn't have to play brilliantly, they just had to do the basics properly. They passed and moved in support of each other. They got forward in numbers when they had the ball, and they pressed when they didn't have the ball.

They appeared fitter and much better organised than us.

Dean Smith said before the match that they'd spent the past couple of weeks bedding in five new players. Getting them used to the system, developing an awareness of where their team mates were going to be on the pitch with the ball and without the ball in relation to them etc etc.

What did we do in the last couple of weeks? We were knackered and needed a well earned break according to Bruce.

We only had five players away on international duty, so we could have put in some valuable work on the training pitch with our large squad, but we decided not to.

Bruce complacently said he was delighted with our performances in the last two games and that he thought we'd played really good football going into the international break.

Brentford knew what they were doing yesterday, and it showed. Villa didn't have a clue, and it showed.

The buck stops with Bruce, Calderwood and Clemence.

Villa fans are so arrogant. :duntmatter:

Sorry I didn't see Hunt at CB ! That will be Lees

Nah Dutch, I'm doing a bit of Carlos' experimentation, Lees brilliant in that position, but would just like to see a pairing of Hunt with Palmer, think they have better pace for link up play on right wing. Just the once mind.

Expecting quite a changed line up with a few of our players either recovering or carrying knocks, plays our full backs huge shifts in when we play diamond formation.

Expecting:

Westwood

Palmer

Lees

Joost

Fox/Pudil

Boyd

Jones

Butterford/Bannan

Matias

Jaoa

Rhodes

great thing is can play a few ways and our strength in depth is crazy.

I'm not against making changes per se, even to winning to teams, but I never think it's good when the number of changes go above 3, and preferably only 2 because that would almost certainly involve breaking up too many of the on-field partnerships (full back and wide midfield, the two strikers, the two centre mids etc.)

Bearing Cardiff next Saturday in mind, if Lee and Fletcher need to sit this out then fine - Butterfield (or Abdi) and Rhodes can come in and hopefully enough continuity is maintained. Maybe Boyd for Wallace too. These changes ought to be okay because they involve substitutions of players that are fairly similar.

What I hope not to see are changes like Palmer in for Hunt, Fox or Pudil in for Reach, Matias in for Bannan, João or Nuhiu in for Fletcher or Hooper. It's nothing against those players as such, but more that they're too different from the player they're coming in for.

If possible we should keep a winning side and go with the 11 that won today.

In an ideal world yes, but with Lee and Fletcher both carrying knocks it would make sense to bench them for Brentford. Got perfectly able replacements in Rhodes, Butters or Bannan in middle and Boyd on left.
