Exactly. It will sort the men from the boys one way or the other. One or other party will get the message. Either he's worth the money and we stump up, or he realises he "isn't all that" just yet, and maybe backs down a little.

Agree with the sentiment but given the fact he hasn't played any competitive football for a number of months it wouldn't be a true reflection of his ability if he looked shiite. On the flip side, if he did look good it may make the club a bit more amenable to his wage demands.

Having said all that, I think it is well documented that he's not going to stay with us so let's just move on.

According to RS there are faults on all sides including George himself.

It really is a shame as I do think he will score a lot of goals and be worth a lot of money one day and he will have slipped through our fingers but the club can only do so much.

Not surprised After they have treated his son like dirt. I imagine David as appalled at they way things have worked out for his boy.

Then again hell have seen plenty of these standard Wednesday power games over the years.

Young Hirst isn't the first player to get treated badly for daring to think and say no.

The problem with making an offer for a new contract is that the player can always say no...there's nothing the club can do about that whatever is offered...and if people think that offering a contract that is the same as any of our first team players then they should watch the U23' game that Joao played in to see how far George is from a first team place

Treated his son like dirt by offering him a record contract for a player of his age. Why should we continue investing in someone who's going to sit in a Premier League teams reserves for the next 4 years?

from under 23,s to the first team is a massive step up and a gamble and like it or not GH hasn't done anything yet to warrant top wages he needs some time on loan playing first team football and if he did well in that then come back and state your claim is the way to go  ,

Record contract for player in his age group can be 200 p/w for all we know.

Why would he agree to get 10, 20 or 50 times less then what he would get elsewhere ?! Would you advise anyone really close to you to do it.

First team chance for him under CC was 0%, and not even giving him first team number, or taking him on pre-season tour said a lot about how highly he was rated.

Club let his market value drop by not playing him, and will get less from tribunal just because of "our" spite.

This fundamentally overlooks the point that even if he isn't good enough for our first team, he's able to earn a lot more at other clubs than he can here.

The reason he is going to leave is that he can earn more elsewhere than he can here, not to get game time or because he thinks he's too good for us. He just knows his worth and our capability to pay doesn't match it.
