Def Leppard played the Wap in the 70s and 90s, so maybe loved by both sides of the city.

Thanks for posting the link, that was awesome!

IMO they were the best of the ‘Made in Sheffield’ groups around that time

Honestly nothing more tragic than people discussing whether a pub was Wednesday or United, or bragging it about it never being ‘taken’

All the while normal punters wishing all the football fans would fuuck off somewhere else and kick the shiit out of each other in private

And they wonder why coppers treat them the way they do

Thanks for your pointless input to this thread

Used to go to away games in the Wilko era with a cracking bunch of lads that used to frequent the wap , museum , rebels........never saw an ounce of trouble in any of them.

The Wap used to run a regular coach to the away games in the 70s.   Only went on one to Wolves in the league cup game 1976.  2-1 win with Roger Wylde getting the last minute winner.  Not bad considering they were in the old 1st division and us in the 3rd.

The main success of that non eventful season.

Remember the Nelson opposite Redgates with the Jimmy Hendrix Psychedelic mural?

The gents toilets in the Nelson used to have an amazingly funny graffiti saga. It was started by the words "Grim Reaper" (a popular rock band of the day). Some wag added, "Is this a sad farmer?", then every time you went in someone had added a line to it. I don't suppose anyone on here remembers it or any of the lines added.

Whale oil beef hooked was the only graffiti that springs to mind.

Pigs like to think they "own" every pub in town by default, but other than Penny Black and Fanny's everywhere is pretty much a mix.

Yates' has both our Sanderson and their Laver kits painted on the wall, and there's a silhouette of the North Stand on the wall in the Beehive on West Street.

Plastic pint pots...first I can remember, never saw any particular affiliation for either club,

Claymore was an Owls pub

The Claymore was my first saturday night pub in town, as a 16 year-old apprentice.  Just before that it was Saturday afternoons in the Minerva and the Stone House.

Walentake was a great place to go for heavy music, Nelson on the moor was also a heavy music pub.
Not much trouble in either pub until the motorcycle guys started going in.
Oh they were the days

actually nothing more tragic than being all high and mighty and not being able to accept things were a bit different in the 70’s and 80’s. It happened, get over it and stop belittling people sharing memories of pubs and places long gone.
