What's the Plan B?

Recommended Posts

Tactics, Garry Monk-ball = 3-5-2, hard-running, hard-pressing, keep the shape. Three very good first halves.

But what do we do when the opposition 'rope-a-dope' to use the old Muhammad Ali tactic, tire us out in the first half while absorbing our pressing then come out and attack us in the second half?

a) Do we need a different style of play for the second half when we can't press at those levels? Sit deeper, and pass the ball more?

b) Also - when we go behind, the tactic seems to be more of the same. The personnel change but the formation is the same. We can't throw Nuhiu on to mix it up any more. So normally it is just inferior players doing the same thing that hasn't worked for the first XI. We barely mounted an attack after going behind. Is there a way we can switch things up? Change to 4-3-3 or 3-4-3?

I'd have liked to have seen us sacrifice a defensive player and switch to one of these formations:

(4-3-3) - FDB for Brown, Reach for Van Aken

....................................Dawson................................

.Palmer...........Iorfa..................Lees..............Harris..

...........Dele-Bashiru...Luongo......Bannan................

.Kachunga.................Windass.....................Reach..

(3-4-3) - FDB for Brown, Rhodes for Luongo

.................................Dawson...................................

.................Iorfa............Lees........Van Aken..............

.Odubajo.........Dele-Bashiru....Bannan.......Harris....

..Kachunga................Rhodes.................Windass....

More open at the back, but we'd have gone 3-on-3 with the Bristol Centre-Backs and at least changed the pattern of the game.

I think it's a combination of Monk's natural defensive style and his lack of confidence in the players he has. It all ends up a bit of a mess and confusing.

We need to have a settled team, which competes and not only creates chances, converts them too.

There will be a point in the season where we would be better taking risks and win 3-2 rather than hold out for a clean sheet trying to nullify the opposition and nick a goal.

Just now, scilly owl said:

Look, don’t worry about plan b or c, the main thing is that we showed Jamie Vardy the door which proved to be a master stroke because he is hopeless.

WTF has Vardy got to do with anything? :duntmatter:

My Plan

        Dawson / Wildsmith

Odubajo Irofa Dunkley Palmer

                  Shaw

         Brown       Bannan

Kachnga     Widnass     Harris

Pace at the back to play high line

Shaw as a defensive midfilder, he looks a big lad and decent on the ball. When we are in possession he drops in-between the centre backs.

Play through Bannan and Brown. Pace on the wings!
