waynecoyne14
he was one of the players that you went to see-I mean one that had the capability of performing above the level we were at , same as rodger wylde

He was on Arsenals books as a kid IIRC and you could tell he always had a bit of quality and flair. Didnt we sign him from Shrewsbury? Pretty much a 50:50 split at the time at whether it was him or Wylde who was the better player.
Colin Dobson
Unfortunately, there was a paper strike during the Arsenal sequence. It meant that typically we never received the accolades we should have done. It was one of the last of the Cup replay marathons - Brady equalised in the last minute in the Highbury game - Wednesday held on in extra time. Then came the three games at Filbert Street! '79, 2-1 win (Johnson got the other I think) Me and my dad behind the Rotherham goal as it went in. 'Twas the Rotherham end so kept hands in pockets, scarves covered In '81 he signed for the famous Edmonton Drillers of the NASL Always remember the poorly educated sports journalist on the telly announcing the signing by saying: "Hornsby was arriving in Edmonton from Sheffield, Wednesday" not realising that he shouldn't have said it with the comma. Stoopid peasant Yeah that Millmoor goal was the famous corner routine. Everyone running around in a little circle, not Hornsby, he drifted outside the area and waited. Patience is a virtue, the ball fell to him and he stroked the sweetest half volley into the top corner of the Tivolli goal to send us all crazy ! Rogerwyldesmullet
Fine player. Remember both the Brentford and Rovrum goals like yesterday. He caused a mega surge at the latter which when it ebbed back threw me headlong into the stewards and coppers guarding the exit. Mad days.

Finney on the Wing
Went to Oxford United's Manor Ground in the early eighties when he scored a belting 20 yard volley. Think we won 2-0 that day.

He was an important creative player for us during that period.......and I often wonder why this set of games against Arsenal is never mentioned. It was amazing. We so nearly beat them, and there were exciting high scoring draws.....until they comfortably beat us in the last match. But there seems to so little record of it. From memory, they didn't beat us comfortably in the final match. I seem to recall us having lots of chances before going down 2-0.

MAL
He was one of those players that looked like he played in carpet slippers. That is a good analogy, not a bad one. He had silky skills. I liked Brian Hornsby.
