Leon Clarke - What's made him what he is?

Recommended Posts

There’s an element of a very late bloomer in him.

But on the whole it shows what a wasted career he has had. How many managers have signed him based on what he could do, he’s quick, strong, can finish. He’s had that all his career but has shown little interest in harnessing it!

credit to Wilder for finally unlocking it but it’s surely a case of what might’ve been for Clarke.

Possibly that he's got not only a Manager who brings out the best in him, but also a set of encouraging fans instead of a set who were always disparaging of him.

Yeah cos the Blades fans never do that do they.....they've had no reason to get on his back but there's a long list of others that have had the treatment, same at any club.

Leon Clarke and all that has gone before has finally made himself what he currently is.

He is currently proving a hell of a lot of people very wrong but let's have some honesty because he himself would probably be the first to admit that he was overweight, lazy and could only ever be really bothered in very small patches at the higher level which he gave glimpses of belonging in.

He is in the right place at the right time and it seems at least in part it's taken a truly horrible experience to motivate him into delivering what he most likely always had more consistently.

The best thing we could do right now is suck it up, wish him well and each and every one of us send him a tin of Roses for Chrimbo and pray he caves in.

For me he's always had ability. He had some great games for us. The major issue was that he just a bit of a d*ckhead. It's not like he stopped being a bit of a d*ckhead after he left either. The penny seemed to drop after the Di Canio incident at Swindon. Since then he's scored goals everywhere he's been really. Wilder's got hold of him (and others as well) and to be fair is getting the best out of him.

Not one mention for Wilder in this post? You seriously think Wilder hasn't been at least partly responsible for him playing like he is when not one of his previous managers have managed it? Talking of sucking it up, I think you need to suck up the fact that Wilder is very probably a very very good (brilliant?) manager and an excellent motivator. Is it too hard to admit?
