Daily Mail's Matt Barlow - SWFC's Hirst Snub

Recommended Posts

I had enough of this if I’m honest. If George Hirst really wants to stay then he’ll sign and work with the manager in terms of where he wants to move on loan or how he will work his way into the first team. If he is trying to dictate where he’ll play (as the rumours suggest) then let him leave.

New criteria for proving your worth to Geoffrey.

Say something he doesn’t want to hear = must demonstrate presence at contract negotiations.

If somebody starts making claims about contract negotiations it might impress somebody who claims to live at f@@@off. A person with a slightly higher IQ might wonder how they got this information.

Yep...pay an unproven teenager whatever he wants.

That is a great way to manage a club. Sure we’d no regret such a decision when first team regulars start banging on the chairman’s door and asking why they’re earning less or the same as an 18 year old with no proven track record in first team football.

Yet we can pay all these squad players who are never gonna be good enough loads more ?

Fair point. Can't see why we didn't sell him in August if we're not letting him train with his peers.

If somebody starts making claims that the mail tells "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" in it's newspaper reports. A person with a slightly higher IQ might wonder how they got this information.

...unless they (vaguely) say what you want to hear, in which case just being a Wednesdayite will do.

That’s not the kind of intellectual rigour that you want to be boasting about.

Neither Hirst "loves" wednesday.

George wants first team money, yet he doesn't deserve it, and refused to go out on loan.

David, isn't relevant in football anymore.

I can sum what understand what your saying here Hirst snr seems to be using his legend status at the club as some sort of blackmail I think. If he truly loved this club surely he’d say to his son stick by the club you support. Don’t go chasing money yet because it could bite you in @rse and you could end up a step back struggling to make an impact whilst sheff we’d seem to want to find the right time and nurture him a lot better in order to benefit him in long run.

If George was given a sub role, then the chances of him signing would’ve significantly improved. It’s then up to the boy to prove whether he’s ready. If he is, we all win, if not then they could’ve sent him on loan elsewhere. It’s so bloody simple and this stalemate is gonna cost Wednesday in the long run as by all accounts (and nowt to do with his surname) he’s excelled at every level.

Every level?

The ESFA and against teenagers in the U20 squads?

Well now.

Better bench Gary Hooper and Jordan Rhodes....

Those criticising Carlos for not playing him are not really being appreciative of the reality of modern football.

The managers remit is promotion and he, like most of his peers, is going to place his faith in the finished article, as opposed to a young prospect.

Furthermore, Carlos has had the fortune of being able to bring in a Hooper, FF, Fletcher, Rhodes etc.,and the vast, vast majority of managers would do the same.

It is not defending it per se, but more an indictment of how modern English football works, particularly at the higher levels.

You only have to look look at the farce of Chelsea having of 30+ players out on loan because there’s little to no opportunity of them getting in the first team.

Those criticising Carlos are completely out of line, because he's been absolutely clear it's a matter that is out of his hands, and it's related to contracts.

The fact we havnt tied Hirst down to a long contract is a disgrace. He is the hottest prospect we have had for decades from our youth team ,and we are prepared to let him walk out of the door come may .

How the hell we are prepared to have Dave and Joao on the bench before young Hirst beggars belief.

The square root of naff all has come through our academy in the last decade and beyond ,and when we finally develop a player who is clearly good enough, we sit and play silly buggers and lose him. Pathetic .

Because they are both proven in adult football?

And both signed their last contract offers?

Im sorry but id rather have a young lad who scores goals for fun over a striker who last scored about three years ago .

Earlier in the season we were plodding away with Nuhiu, he’s had many chances and failed 95% of the time. Should’ve been given to a young hungry striker who wants to prove himself.

He didn't look like scoring ever against Cambridge. He scores goals but needs to develop against better and stronger opposition. Sign contract. Go out on loan. Prove his capabilities. Get first team football. It's not difficult.

Having see  them both in action Hirst is the better finisher.

Though he's still yet to score in adult football...

..Which still leaves him behind a striker that last scored years ago in the professional goals stakes....

Stats can be twisted any which way.
