Huddersfiled might appeal Wards red card

Well, let me put it in another context.

And maybe we are spoiled a little here, i'm not sure - but I personally would not be totally upset if Westwood were injured going into a game at Wembley for instance.

Especially after a good showing today by Wildsmith.   However this isn't about our keepers - any keeper coming in will look to play a blinder, every time.   They get one shot usually.

Plus keepers generally are crazy people.   Who would want to be a keeper?   Not me!

After that ramble, my thoughts are basically - the game will be won or lost by the ten in play, not the men between the sticks.

Westwood would have saved their first and not been caught in no mans land for the second.

Had we had Wildsmith in net vs Hull when Westwood was MOM we would have lost about 3 nil and been out of it by half time.

no player can influence a game more than the keepers ..your striker can miss 3 sitters and the score remains 0-0 ,your keeper makes 3 mistakes and your 3-0 down ........your right in so much the 10 will decide how the game is played but if the keeper as a nightmare  you'll lose no matter what the others do .

That's such a clear handball and just a natural reaction for the keeper to reach out when he's getting rounded like that... for him to afterwards point at his chest when sent off is just a poor excuse... that's definitely not where the ball hit you, mate ;)

If they appeal and lose, would he not then miss the second leg and possible final should they beat us?

The sensible option would be for them to take the one match ban. I hope they do.

Is a straight red not a 3 game ban anyway?

How long the player is suspended after being sent off is regulated by the association and the league authorities, and it may even differ between leagues of the same association.

This is what the FA does for a straight red card:

Denying obvious goal scoring opportunity - 1 match
Offensive/insulting/abusive language or gestures - 2 matches
Serious foul play/violent conduct/spitting at an opponent or any other person - 3 matches

The majority of straight reds are for bad tackles, elbows etc so fall into the 3 match ban bracket, however I believe Ward falls into the 1 match ban bracket.

I'd be more gutted about losing Westwood than I am with Hooper, Wildsmith looked a bag of nerves yesterday and struggled to do the basics at times and as for you're last point goalkeeping is a specialist position 1 error can define the whole outcome of the game

Agree with this its nothing personal but I don't get the love in for wildsmith he looks like a plenty talented young lad but were we to release him I wouldn't be surprised to see him sat on the bench in league 1, he always looks very 'small' in the goal to me. Shots like fulham's first which are nowhere near the corner seem to go past him with ease. The same sentiments for the final, hull would have won the game by an embarrassing margin had westwood not have played.

Hopefully they don't appeal the sending off. While i'm sure their no 2 is capable every little advantage helps and it will probably be the biggest game of the keepers life which brings its own pressures. Also it always seems to effect the way centre halfs play when they have a young lad in goal behind them whos inexperienced.
