Parked it on nearby Cookson Road with no parcel shelf and a shed load of golf clubs, CD's and clothes on show. Whoever it was must have wondered if it was a honey trap with the amount of gear that was on display (oh to be young and nieve again!) The criminal mastermind who broke in only lived three doors down from where it was parked and half of my gear was deposited in his wheelie bin and under the hedge in his garden.

Buck Rogers
It's odd. On one hand, I understand that the younger generations have no desire to sit in traditional pubs and prefer the gym, coffee shops and the internet to fulfil their social needs instead. Yet, go in any city centre pub or bar and you'll see plenty of young people in there. Especially Wetherspoons. Which contradicts my first paragraph. I'm guessing then that the younger generations still enjoy going for a drink but it's the atmosphere of a local pub that puts many people off. Tatty furniture, fruit flies, musty odours and 'characters' aren't exactly the unique selling points that attracts new custom or retains unwitting visitors.

Traditional pubs sell all the bar snacks you need if you feel a bit peckish. Crisps ,pork scratchings, nuts ,etc .

This works well because the menu is constantly changing. Eg they have an Indian night , a Greek food event. The pub make some kind of cut on the food or charge a hosting fee its a great sucess. The place is packed when these are on. having lived near the Wharncliffe in Burncross for many years I’m amazed they haven’t done something similar to get a new era of people in, especially as they have a massive beer garden. Instead they seem to be happy with half a dozen regulars.

Pubs just need to be a bit more desirable to all. Eg love the Shakespeare nr kelham island but the toilets are minging, even for a bloke. All Bar One focussed on being safer environments and this is the business model way forward for most, even though personally I love old fashioned real ale pubs. Ps what’s the name of the real ale pub next to Nottingham station @Salli? The castle rock one? Used to love visiting there.

That’s The Vat and Fiddle, used to park the New Barrack coach at the brewery and drink there back in the day; both for Forest and County games.

kilnhurstowl
Change in drinking habits I suppose. No longer do people want to sit around drinking horrible Carling and fosters, they would rather be drinking craft ales in pubs with trendy décor. Pubs that don't move with the times are the ones that shut down. That's why micro brewery's and places like these are thriving at the moment and the " traditional pub" are dying out. ( Except In the countryside where traditional seems to be doing ok) but that's not football related.
