SWFC SUMMER 2022 TRANSFER RUMOUR MEGATHREAD - in memory of Gurujuan

Recommended Posts

Don’t know if this has been posted. From The Mirror article in relation to Birmingham’s takeover.

‘The hard calls are expected to include getting to grips with the club’s wage bill which has a number of fringe players on huge money in the second tier.

These include reserve keeper Neil Etheridge, 32, who is under contract until 2024 on £21,000-a-week and defender Harlee Dean,31, who was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday last term and has 12 months left on £31,000-a-week.

Other stars likely to be made available to go are Lukas Jutkiewicz,33, on £15,000-a-week under 2024 and left-back George Friend,34, who earns £8,000-a-week.

Eight momentous matches that fans can't forget

Birmingham want to lower the age of their squad and reduce their wage bill , including using loans like American defender Auston Trusty, 23, from Arsenal who has already impressed hugely.’

Seems Dean is available, but clearly the sticking point is he’s on £31K per week at Birmingham.

Won’t be just his basic wage but there will likely to be contract bonuses in play as well

Basic wage is over £1.6m per year. Guess his overall contract is worth about £2m

We would be stupid to go anywhere near those numbers

I suspect he will need to be paid up to leave in some form. Happens regularly.

He could sign for Wednesday on a reasonable amount of money but Birmingham would have to cover the difference for the remainder of the contract.

31k a week is just ridiculous even at Championship level

We're not even talking about a recently relegated club with parachute payments

Whoever at Brum decided to give him that needs firing, no wonder they're in the sh*t

Seem to remember a certain chairman paying out 25/30k a week to about half a dozen or so players not too long ago? Really stupid but at the time we all went with it as did the Brum fans ….only a certain few teams who bounce from prem to championship and back can sustain those figures the rest like us derby ,reading. And the likes ain’t a chance

Seems like all eggs in one basket regarding wilks? No idea if he will be the answer but after watching last season and especially Saturday really can’t see where he’d fit in…..if the manager sticks to this system? That system will beat majority Of this league but against the more organised and better quality we’ll need to change , I know he said he would but again Saturday didn’t change again and yes we could have with who was I. The bench and 5 sub rule

Harry Redknapp weren’t it - went in there and handed out some right wages to his signings (and his dog)

Dean is a good player, but a non starter given his current wage.

Would take one hell of a reduction in pay or wage contribution from Birmingham (if a loan) to facilitate a move.

Personally, I'd rather see a couple of attacking players in before another CB. Not saying we don't need one, but up front more of a priority IMO.
