My missus told me yesterday a couple of people she works with have been advised by their energy companies that basically their bills will double after April

Double

That's mad

And these are prices decided before the current Ukraine / Russia thing

Yep. The fixed tariffs available now are not surprisingly through the roof. Might need a sedative before opening the email detailing variable tariff come April 1st.

There are 162 floodlights facing the pitch and last count there was a quarter of them not working properly

at what percentage does it become unfit/unsafe to play ?

im guessing we will need to get them replaced at some point.

do you know the cost of replacing the whole lot with LED’s

A typical 2000w LED suitable for HDTV in a sports stadium would be £4000 ish each. Though you wouldn't need as many to replace the conventional Metal Halide lamp.

A smaller 1500w unit would be around £1500 ish. A lot depends on how the existing units are fixed and spaced as to what would suit best.

Cabling etc is already in place so installation costs wouldn't be that great.

I've no idea what sort of lamps are in place now. If they are Metal Halade

...they are still widely available and easy to replace.

The FA reccomend a mininimum of 120 lux..which would not be bright enough for TV...well not an acceptable standard.

While UEFA would be wanting around 500 to 1500 lux.

The floodlights have to be lux tested regularly to ensure they achieve League requirements. They only just passed the test last summer and more light units have failed since so the chances are that they will fail when next tested.

Thanks.

I'm not sure why they cannot be fixed..retro fixed if need be. Unless the enclosures are falling to bits?

Parts are available

I've changed loads...though not on a football stadium

If you swap a 2000w halide for a 2000w led the running cost will be the same.

Though you may not need as many led's. So running costs will be lower.

However, the cost to buy the Led fittings would be much more expensive than halide.

Why is this an issue?

Coz some people must have summat to moan about.😉

The lighting is garbage though. Very patchy with some particularly dark areas. It can't be easy for the players never mind us spectators trying to see the ball.

They have to be maintained to provide the minimum lux standards throughout the season though. I would be very surprised if they meet the minimum standard right now.
