Players we kept too long?

Bearing in mind as well that we kept Stobbs until he was 23. Not a slant on the player for his effort but we paid the wages of a player for six years who was clearly never going to be good enough. He is now playing for Grantham Town with Carlton.

He would have been on peanuts compared to first team players at the time.

No harm in giving young players contracts and a chance to fulfil their promise. It’s low risk and high reward most of the time. Unfortunately DC didn’t see it this way with Osaze and Shaw who both are getting strong reviews from Celtic fans in their first couple of friendly games.

Forestieri, Reach, Lees and Bannan. Could have realised £25-£30m for that lot if we’d released at the right times.

Rhodes if we’d let him go to Norwich after his loan there would’ve saved us another few mil on wages.

The issue with Rhodes was that unless Norwich were offering silly money (which Im sure they weren't - not sure they were offering anything) the deal wouldn't have been worth it.

We were paying installments over a number of seasons for him and I think we'd had arguably been in a position where of we let him go, yes the wages are off our hands but we'd still be paying Middlesbrough what we owed them.

There's been so many over the years, who either weren't good enough but stayed, or were very good but we missed opportunities to sell which we'd later regret.

I'll start us off.

Mark Beevers. Came onto the scene as a promising academy prospect. Attracted some attention from big clubs but after a couple of decent seasons it just fizzled out.

That the same Mark Beevers who will be playing in the league above us in the coming season.

Andy Booth, FF, Westwood & Rhodes are the ones that comes straight to mind but there's a big list to be fair. Problem is you don't realise it until it's too late, Excluding Rhodes of course he should have been sold instead of going on loan to Norwich.

Lewis Buxton

Keiren Westwood

Tom Lees

Sam Hutchinson (it was so long we brought him back)

Matt Penney

Almen Abdi

I get a lot of those will be unpopular shouts and to get rid of a player in contract you need a buyer.

Says a lot about how this club has been run really.

Honestly think you could apply this to just about anyone in the DC era, at least anyone of any significance.

Beyond that - it pains me to say it but Llera's form went off a cliff his last six months with us. Admittedly it would have been pretty unlikely that we'd have found a buyer in the January window before his contract expired but we should have at least dropped him.

Hirst, when he was mostly injured post 93.  From memory.

Rhodes should have offloaded him to Norwich for 500k and saved the wages.

Forestieri, should have got rid after the Norwich incident

Beevers, maybe could have got £2m for him instead of nowt

David Graham, no explanation needed

list go on and hindsight is a wonderful thing

Whilst still paying millions in installment payments to Middlesbrough?
