How did you become a fan of Sheffield Wednesday
toppOwl replied to Taz's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Football wasn't a big thing in our family, there were a lot of Leeds fans at junior school but I didn't really take that much interest until the '78 World Cup, I followed the sport more after that, the Star gave away a team poster to celebrate the 1980 promotion campaign and I was hooked from there, 42 years of suffering later........................ -
Will he be backed next season..
toppOwl replied to Simon1984's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I've seen a few comments elsewhere that we may be heading for financial issues again but not sure where it's originated from, anyone seen anything? -
We'll end up with the next Harry Potter.

Dejphon Chansiri Take A Bow
toppOwl replied to Blue and white's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
He hasn't no, far from it but he has shown signs that he's learning at last, it will take a lot to undo the damage but I've enjoyed the second half of this season more than any for a few years, long way to go but a step in the right direction. -

The fact that DC has hardly been mentioned (particularly in the latter half of the season) proves this, we seemed be discussing the chairman more than the manager/team not so long ago. -
Bannan going will be a blessing.

We won't want to get rid and he won't want to leave, hail King Barry. -
If Luongo had been fit for more of the campaign we might not have needed the play offs.

Carlos had the personnel though, Moore has had to make do with scraps.

Traffic Warning - Major Incident
toppOwl replied to Rick - Norfolk Owl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Accident at J31 roundabout apparently. -
I've seen this guy Andrew post on FB pages and forums, he's a bit odd and his football related "poems" make William McGonagall look good.
-
Excitement with trepidation (I know that wasn't one of the options but still ) an early goal could make or break the tie (and atmosphere) depending on which team gets it.
-
Depends on the nature of the loss, a manager can't compensate for a mistake like Hutch made tonight, were still in the tie.
-
I might be old fashioned but in games like this (and derbies) I want to see a full, heaving all singing all dancing away end with the home fans in full blooded riposte, not the current paltry allocation.

We're still very much in a game with the most difficult part of it out of the way, no complaints here.

SUNDERLAND -V- WEDNESDAY (Play off 1st Leg) OMDT
toppOwl replied to Lord Snooty's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
It was a very frustrating performance, we never got going, gave the ball away cheaply, lumped hopeful balls up the field that were easily cut out, we got better in the last 15 when the Mackems tired themselves out but despite this we are still very much in the game, ask Real Madrid. roll on Monday. -
NML is better a late impact sub running at tired defences, bring Kamberi on if we want to wear the linesmans "flag arm" out. LG/SB has to be the starting pair with Windass on for SB in the last half hour.

Peter Reid wants Sunderland to win
toppOwl replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
There was a Monday night Sky game a good few years ago (possibly Everton or Man City I can’t remember) Reid was in the crowd wearing a large hat, the camera zoomed in on him and he’s fallen asleep, right at that moment a very loud tannoy announcement jolts him awake, he nearly jumps out of his seat, the blokes behind him are laughing and you can clearly see him mouth “frightened me to f****** death” -
I would have preferred to play MK should we get to the final, I can't imagine the stick we'd get from the other side of the city for losing to Wycombe, horrible side but lets worry about Sunderland first.

So, Patrick Blondeau Wasn't All Bad...
toppOwl replied to Binky Griptite's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
It's a little known fact that whilst he was in the car with his pregnant wife he cut me up on the motorway, I pulled alongside him and shouted "get in thy lane Blondeau" - the rest is history. -
First English Play Off Semi with crowd over 70,000!
toppOwl replied to JemmoJemoJemmo's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I know it (allegedly) gives the home side an advantage by only giving the away boys 2000 tickets but I'd prefer a full away end with both sets of fans giving it their all, you can't beat it. -
I thought that but he definitely didn't look happy when he originally came off with the injury.
-
Windass (if fit) would be a capable replacement.
-
The club should keep anything concerned with Bannan's fitness tightly underwraps, lets keep the Mackems guessing until the teams are announced an hour before the game.

Pitch invaders (watch to the end 🤣)
toppOwl replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
This exactly what happened with the big lad, he ran towards the players who didn't take an iota of notice of him then ran out of ideas and headed back to the kop -
Two sets of fans who deserve much better than the hands their respective clubs have dealt them over the last few years (mostly down to owners) as others have said this ought to have been the final, would have made a cracking day. Really tough one to call, Fridays game will be the big one, if the Owls travel back with anything more positive than a one goal margin defeat I'd fancy us to do the business, injuries may have a big say in the matter. It's going to be tense.
