Bannan’s thoughts on Wildsmith save

Why didnt Bannan have a go at our defence for their lack positional awareness for some of the goals or even with himself for the lack of effort in trying to tackle the player for the second goal and not making any attempt to close down the player making the cross for the third? Maybe that might have been a bit too much for Barry Big Time to deal with.

Where was the midfield player closing down the shot? ....oh that’s him yards away...shouting at the goalie! (Methinks the boy doth protest too much)

Why are people acting like this sort of outburst from a player doesn't happen in every football match in world football?

It's only cos theres no crowd and you can hear it FFS.

This. There’s nothing to see (or hear) here.

You should take up a different sport if this offends you that much

I guess you encourage people in your workplace to scream and shout at each other when a mistake is made even when the one doing the screaming and shouting is as culpable as the others. Did it have a positive effect on the performance and team as a whole? No it didn't. Maybe you should look at yourself if you think that's an acceptable method of improving performance. It clearly doesn't work.

Oh stop it. You’re comparing a bloody office environment to a football field. Competitive sport always has and always will be like this.

You didn't answer the question of did it improve the performance of the team? But to be fair you didn't need to as the result showed it didn't.

I don’t think it would make a blinds bit of difference with this lot mate. You think him rollocking the keeper affects the performance of the other 9 outfield players?

I think being in the league situation we are might affect them, but that’s it

It’s crazy. Joe Wildsmith is a 6 ft 2, 25yr old man. A small man gave him a bit of gyp in the heat of the game for letting a goal in. If he’s that bothered he could extract an apology by dangling Bannan upside down by his ankles. Or just get on with it and accept it happens all the time in a game. Which is what they both probably did.

He really doesnt come accross that tall on tv... LOL

Disappointing that our captain/leader would rather criticise his teammates for mistakes rather than try and rally and support them.

For what it's worth I'm not sure Westwood would have dealt with the deflection any different.

When we were decent, we had plenty of big characters in the dressing room who weren’t afraid to tell a team mate what they thought of them if they weren’t “at it” as Carlton Palmer once said.

Nothing wrong with that, Joe Wildsmith is playing in goal for a Championship club and needs to be performing to a standard, a standard he currently isn’t achieving.

Barry Bannan is bang on and if we had a few more players who were as vocal and passionate as Bannan is, we wouldn’t be in the mess we are in now.

it is strange. We have fans demanding passion from the players and once it comes it’s bad. Passion comes in many forms. I’d rather he did that then have a bunch of silent robots like we usually do. Bannan is the ONLY one who ever pipes up

Stats indicate something (obviously!) but rarely often tell the whole story (else they’d be facts). These stats might indicate that Wildsmith isn’t up to the job but they might equally indicate that our defence can’t prevent the opposition from getting “gilt-edged” “can’t miss” chances. Never fully trust a stat.

Well yes, we know the defence is also not up to scratch. Wildsmith's save percentage however is significantly worse than both Westwood and Dawson this season.

I think this is all the evidence needed to show why Bannan is not captain material.

I struggle to think of a worse captain that we've had. Giving him such a responsibility when he carries on like this is comical mis-management from above. Hopefully we can get a few hundred grand for him in the summer, because the thought of him leading the team thrown together in League one spells misery.
