Sheffield Wednesday almost signed Jamie Vardy from Leicester for £5 Million

Recommended Posts

Said it the last time the story cropped up on here.

2015, option of Vardy or Hooper, 99% of people are picking Gary Hooper. Especially for the money we paid for Hooper. The fact Vardy is a Wednesday is irrelevant.

Nobody saw what was coming with Vardy, that's why his story is so incredible.

There are many sticks to beat Chansiri with, I'm not sure this is one of them.

At the time he’d played league football for 3 years. He’d scored 20 in 63 in 2 seasons at Championship level in one of the teams near the top, then 5 in 34 in the PL.

Would have been a gamble spending £5m on him when Hooper was £3m. Incredible that he then scored 24 in 36 and they one the league, and he’s been a top striker since. Was literally just before he took off and given how this club is I’d guess at him having not pushed on like he has done had he moved here

Thing is with Vardy the Leicester team has been built around him to get the goals

Also with amazingly talented players who get the goals and assists when Vardy has a bad run

We'd have had bannan and Hutchinson with Vardy 😂😂😂😭

I reckon Bannan and Vardy would be a dream combination. One of the top chance creators in the Championship to dink it over the defenders and one of the deadliest finishers in the Premier League with pace to burn to finish it off.

Unfortunately every club has loads of stories like this. Blackburn turned down Zidane, Arsenal turned dwon Zlatan, them lot down the road wouldn't pay £200k for Maradona....and let's not start with Eric Cantona.

Over simplifications there a bit fella

Jack Walker turned down Zidane, Daglish wanted him, Walker famously said "Why do we need Zidane when we've got Tim Sherwood"

Zlatan turned down Arsenal, Arsenal wanted him to do a trial - "Zlatan doesn't do trials" the rest is history

Good job he didnt come here he'd have been banished with Westwood and Hutchinson for having an opinion.

Completely different characters. Vardy played a number of games with a broken wrist, Westwoods unavailable if he has a hair out of place.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I wouldn’t have spent 5m on him then either.

So you wouldn't have spent £5 million on the guy that scored the goals to get Leicester promoted,  it probably made more sense than  £10 million on Rhodes...

Typical Wednesday under.

He wasn’t even their top scorer when they went up, David Nugent was. He scored 16 which isn’t anything outstanding. In summer 2015 his record to that point had been pretty average.. he then went and scored in 11 PL games in a row and never looked back, but there was no way of knowing that. Most would have complained had we spent £5m on a 28 year old with his record

Bannan, to Lees, to Bannan, to Lees, to Westwood, to Vardy. 1-0!

Glad it fell through even as a fan, what he has achieved is worthy of book/movie. Fair play to the lad. I hope he can help us when LCFC deem him surplus

Said it before on other Jamie Vardy posts,

it never happened they only time he remotely came close to thinking about it was in the summer before Leicester got promoted and he asked to either go back on loan to Fleetwood or here as he wasn't happy and had lost his confidence and it was Pearson who talked him in to staying at Leicester, they got promoted and he scored 20 odd goals including one at Hillsborough in which he chucked his shirt to his mates at the bottom of the south stand and the rest is history
