OFFICIAL CLUB STATEMENT REGARDING LIAM SHAW

Sancho moved to Man City for an initial fee of £66,000.

Watford had developed him for years. It happens to other clubs and it will happen to us again. We should have tied him down to some sort of contract in the Summer but it would be naïve to say this doesn't happen elsewhere.

Of course it happens at all clubs. But when was the last time a player at Hillsborough broke through into the first team and showed promise and didn't end up leaving for a fraction of what we could have got? Especially under Chansiri's stewardship?

How do you stop that from happening?  My guess is when an agent has a youngster who shows real promise then they run the contract down so they can maximise the offers from other clubs.

How does any club tie it's players down onto longer contracts then?

Are you saying this doesn't happen?

post brexit UK players with potential will be at a premium.

Do these type of compensation deals have sell on clauses?

They do between English clubs - Exeter got 20% included by tribunal for Ampadu. Don't know if that still applies with moving "abroad". Don't recall us getting one for Hirst or Clare for example.

Tapping up - this one is going nowhere. He's free to talk to Celtic in all rules from exactly 6 months before contract expiry. Unless we can prove that Celtic spoke to him and his agent last year then we have no case. Even then find any transfer that doesn't involve tapping up of some level. It goes on all the time. Its likely Celtic may have enquired with his agent if he woyld consider a move, but I'd be stunned if we didn't get a Bannan or someone to give Hutch a ring in Cyprus to check he fancied it, or hutch contacted us, before we spoke to the club.

Fifa regulations article IV. 18. 3

A professional shall only be free to conclude a contract with another club if his contract with his present club has expired or is due to expire within six months.

They tapped him up 7 months ago 🤣

Of course it happens but it's a gamble, tie a player down who then turns out not to be the standard required.

But then the entire youth system is a gamble, why bother?.  We have failed to identify one of our own players as any good quick enough, and now a team 250 miles north who doesn't even play in our league, has nipped in.

It's another recruitment failure from the Club, no doubt about it.

But surely if you're going into training every day, you might watch Liam Shaw and think "he's not bad him". Otherwise what's the point if you just accept the good ones will move to better clubs for next to nothing?

Plus the fact agents won't sign contacts so they can see what other clubs will offer.

Agents won't sign contracts, except when they do

Thats my point, I thought Clare was worth signing long term and you're also assuming that the agent is willing to sign a contract, if you was the agent wouldn't it be in your interests to run the contract down then take the best offer available?

The player is a Wednesday fan, he's been with us Donkey's years, he's playing well, we knew him better than anyone else.  We held all the cards.

I've no doubt his agent was pushing us to offer more, that's their job (I don't like it btw), but Shaw would be at the lower end of the scale regardless and an asset going into his mid-twenties.

If we can't offer such a player a contract, then there's simply no point with our academy or youth setup.

And how much money has gambling that the youth players wont meet the required standard added to the club coffers? Compared to say offering massive contracts to crocks and expensive failures?

Why the mocking. So Celtic renege  an agreement to keep quiet. But still some want to blame the club....supporters eh.

Stop with this stuff ffs

Nobody 'blamed the club' he simply said it was bad news coming out of the club

Nothing worse than people running round shouting 'blaming the club' 'another stick to bash the club with' etc etc

Please - just STOP with that nonsense
