The club could just have typed:

Dear supporters,

We've fizzed up again and allowed one of our academy products to sign a pre-contract with another club because we didn't try hard enough to keep him. We thought his agent was kidding when he said he had another offer. We realise this is not the first time and we can assure you it won't be the last!

The end.

So what would you do to keep him here?  Clare and Hirst both promised as much as Shaw but their careers seem to have stalled some what.

Pay him to much and if he turns out to be average or poor the club gets hammered.

Pay him something along the lines of the other deadbeats we've spunked money on ... or we could just carry on paying Erby and his like fortunes.

It's not the point that Clare or Hirst failed to deliver on their early promise. It's that like Shaw, we let players go for peanuts rather than tie them down to reasonable contracts. Let some other club discover if they're the real deal or not, but at least make them pay well for the privilege of finding out.

How do you stop that from happening?  My guess is when an agent has a youngster who shows real promise then they run the contract down so they can maximise the offers from other clubs.

He’s questioned Shaw’s agent and now pointed the finger at Celtic. Chansiri should look closer to home. It’s embarrassing.

Other clubs seem to manage it - including one very successfully in the same city as us.

Would DC listen to Bullen. He doesn't listen to anyone else except his advisor.

I wonder who Shaw's agent is?
