BREAKING NEWS - EFL VERDICT - 12 POINTS

Charlton gathering support for their position is rather classless. They, as a third party, with no clear right to appeal a decision of the independent panel, should be respecting the league's disciplinary procedures that have found us guilty and imposed the sanction as they saw fit.

No fan should want this to turn into a legal bun-fight further than what it has been. It'll only ruin the game further.

They have every right to appeal. There’s no reason we should have been any different to Birmingham in terms of when the points deduction came into effect. The season doesn’t finish until tonight so the can feel rightly aggrieved.

Wigan is different because the rules clearly state administration incurs a 12 point penalty.

Going to get very messy!

Plus the administrators at Wigan reckon they have won their appeal against a 12 point deduction.

If this is true then it makes our punishment look even harsher. A club overspending and breaking rules designed to prevent administration getting a bigger points deduction than one screwing its creditors cannot be justified.

Do they? Where is this in the leagues rules?

Again, third party appeal is not a universal right.

So we are saying Charlton can’t appeal for us to have points deducted this season but they can sue the EFL?

They certainly can't appeal the independent panels decision. For me their only recourse would be to sue the EFL for not applying their P&S rules correctly in the first place.

A sad day for #WAFC as their appeal against their 12 point deduction is set to be rejected. Their only saving grace could be that the deduction will be applied at the start of next season. #WiganAthletic

not sure who this guy is

that would be brilliant for us

It's the EFL's fault for taking such a long time over the case. Should've been sorted before the restart then nobody would have had anything to complain about.

Now everyone's in no-man's land. Not good for anybody.

Should've been sorted on the pitch not the courts.

Everyone should have had all the matches post-lockdown to play themselves out of relegation knowing how many points they needed.

The rules aren’t consistent for one. They have every right to challenge the EFL on that, regardless of if an independent commission handed down the actual punishment. The EFL need to be more transparent.

No they don't, the only parties that can appeal the Independent Disciplinary Panel decision is the EFL & SWFC. They could try suing the EFL.

Which would relegate Barnsley. Interesting.

How can they sue the efl, they didn't dish out the punishment or when applied?

They are in a no win situation imo, we will just appeal then into next season. Maybe December before the outcome.

I expect us to appeal regardless of others actions, prob at the last possible moment.

Again, they don't.

They are a member of the league and bound by the rules. Should they disagree they should propose changes to the game. They cannot wish to change things retrospectively to their benefit.

I agree the EFL is as clear as mud. Parachute payments and FFP are a joke.

if you really look at it there was no way the deduction could come this season with the time scale left for all this, say if we were given the deduction this season then we would obviously appeal which would carry over well into the start of the next season. For charlton to be challenging makes no sense, yes they're pissed off but it was the only outcome possible
