Bruce Wants Us To Attack More Quickly

Recommended Posts

Listening to Bruce's comments on Radio Sheffield, it seems he has a clear idea of how he wants to improve our attacking play:

"We have to move the ball quickly - not just by lumping it up the pitch - but we have to move it quickly and into wide areas, good areas, quicker than we do."

There are already clear signs of improvement since Bruce and his team took over, but there are obviously areas where he feels he can improve things. If he can really put his stamp on the attacking side of our game, then that can only bode well going forward...

I don’t think the championship is quite as complicated as people think.

Colin figures it out. Bruce probably knows already.

Pace, Power, Consistency

Good old fashioned ENGLISH football, get the ball wide and get it in the box, then fwds ATTACK the ball not wait for it.

Nowt wrong with that, full of excitement.

Just sayin'

Aye. Boyd really is a waste of a shirt.

if Bruce wants to play quick counter, he should really be utilising Matias whilst Joao and FF are out. Reach & Aarons on the flanks, Fletcher (if unfit, then Fatdhe) as a 10, Matias furthest up the pitch playing off the shoulder looking to run in behind.

The team has spent 3.5 seasons passing side ways and back and not gambling. Instead of floaty balls we need flat balls hit with pace and individuals need to be prepared to run beyond their players. We have spent time playing in front of the opposition some have already bought in others need to adapt.

Matias does not reliably track back, playing this style of high pressing requires players to cover lots of yardage. Although Boyd is slow does the yardage and does not switch off which MM is prone to do. neither are ideal and personally would look to some of under 18s going forward.

Think he is only playing Boyd at the moment has he tracks back and gives us more protection, sadly going forward he seems to have lost the ability to bloody shoot, its woeful, odd really for someone who used to score plenty.

He is not talking about pacy players which of course we need but more the amount of time we take to get the ball played out wide and forward.

Whether this is a reflection on the quality of the players I don’t know but we tip tap too much and the killer which is the number of times we pass backwards instead of taking the positive option.

Just kills any attacking momentum

Oh my god, so much this!

It really agitates me when our players chip, loop or float a pass where the receiving player has to wait for the ball to come down to them rather than play it simple straight on the deck for them to run onto.

It's been one of the (many) reasons why other teams could find their shape so quickly against us these last few years.

Football is a simple game, get fitter than the others, pass to your own team, get it forward quickly, shoot on sight, shoot early, clear your lines.  United are 3rd with a team of journeymen who have achieved nothing elsewhere but their team spirit and have a go attitude has got them up there. We have a nucleus of about 8 or 9 players who are far better than theirs yet we're miles behind. Bruce has seen this and will put it right.

Thats why I'd leave Matias high up the pitch. Don't want him tracking back. He's crap at it anyway.
