As it came to pass in 1966 the past and the future to be, in a short row of shops. Herbert Browns on the one side and a new shining light of Atkinsons on the other !

 

Atkinson would have chosen Hickton and the cup would have been ours. Brown was very much the Ashurst type. While those photo's were being taken I was still finding it difficult to stem the flow of tears as my train headed back to Sheffield.

Not me. I was waiting outside the town hall with 50,000 others.  

Wonder where they set off from, to be going up The Moor.  Bramall Lane would have been nice 

What I remember from those days was how many young fans we had.  There's hardly anyone over 30 in that photo. And United too.

Maybe youngsters just can't afford to go anymore. 

Think it cost about four shillings to stand. (20p) and the average wage was £10-£20.   I was a teenager then and I remember football cost a bit less than going to the cinema.
