BREAKING - Jos Luhukay explains Westwood Situation at #SWFC

Goalkeepers are a completely different scenario...you can put development players on the bench give them 20-30 mins in games here and there to build up their experience, see if they handle the step up.

Dawson doesn’t deserve to be dropped, but Westwood should have played both games so we wouldn’t be dropping him.

Westwood has at least another couple of seasons at this level, he is by a long way a better all round goal keeper than Dawson is currently.

The two youngsters have more than a couple of seasons ahead of them and they have both impressed Jos whilst he has been here, so it's for Westwood to force his way back.  Would the two youngsters think it good management skills to drop them in favour of Westwood, when they have come in and played admirably?

I'm a big fan of Westwood but Jos has made his decision I can't see him changing his mind anytime soon.

See I read this as ‘WE made the decision’. ‘That is OUR decision.’.

Seriously who is we and our? Surely it’s suould be MY decision.

He also states Dawson and Wildsmith are the future of the club. That kind of language implies Westwood doesn’t have a future.

Fair enough if you don’t read it this way, but I often read into what’s not been said and choices of certain words.

I don’t think we will see Westwood play again. Great servant, still head an shoulders above the other two.

Time to back the two young lads now I suppose. They will have a bright future and lots of potential. That being said, currently it should be Westwood who’s number 1.

For the record; from what I've seen of them in a Wednesday shirt, Westwood would be my number one.

However, everyone used to go mad about Carlos' "favourites" and "picking just on reputation" now we have a bloke in charge who says he will only pick players on what he's seen and nothing else, and everyone kicks off about it!?

You're all a bunch of nutbars.

He's not consistent about it though. Fletcher played straight away, as did FF at the back end of last season.

I would expect a manager to at least assume that a keeper that had apparently performed so admirably in the past for a club might at least be worth having a proper look at in pre-season friendlies. Westwood had - what - 45 minutes?

We employ Jos as Head Coach/Manager and pay him lots of dosh to make lots of decisions about players, tactics and team set up...he should be left to do his job and make those decisions, for his own reasons. He does not have to justify his every move to us fans at every turn, its simply ridiculous. Let him get on with his job and judge him at the right time, which is not now.

Really? There's every reason to suppose his form was down to him carrying an injury anyway. We were managed by CC back then after all, and we all know now he didn't give a sh*te about whether players had niggling injuries.

But before last season Westwood had been a standout performer. POTY for two of those three seasons. He deserves to have a lot more faith placed in him than he has done.

Outstanding player since he's been here.

And I did wonder at the beginning of last season if he was carrying a problem.

But it is what it is.

Like I said, a year is a long time in football.

You're as good as your last game is the standard cliche. But clichés are often born of experience.

Not to say that there is no financial element, I'm quite sure there is.

It makes no sense to have a second or third choice on the books as an top earner.

Whether he should be second or third choice is up to the manager to decide and the proof will be in the pudding.

We can but just sit back and watch.

He’s almost been punished for being injured???

No he's not. Its just the way football is. Every player in every team, except the ones who bring in the crowds, runs the risk of having to justify regaining their place after being injured. The only player at SWFC who doesn't is probably FF.

Its all very simple.

Westwood's nearing the end of his contract and the club have already decided not to renew. So on that basis Jos (and no doubt Chansiri) have decided to leave Westwood out and use this season to get the 2 young keepers we have up to standard ready for next year.

There's no desire to replace Westwood with a different number 1 next season. It will be Dawson, Wildsmith and a new number 3.

Its another way for the club to reduce costs. Rest assured though that ticket prices wont reflect the drop in quality.

What!!. Why is JL copping for all this 'he's not the man' etc. Its plainly obvious they need Westwood off the payroll asap because of the serious financial restraints which may have been imposed on the club. Have you asked yourself why he didn't go in the transfer window. Purely down to the fact no one would match his wages. Vent your displeasure at the Chairman who clearly makes all the decisions. Unfortunately JL as been handed a poison chalice. With all this flak flying around I would say anyone who is worth there pay from the club then its him.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he walks before the January transfer window. Who in opinion would take the managerial role if that happens.

Westwood is the best goalkeeper we have in our squad.

Irrespective of whether we need him off the books he should be starting in goal.

As and when the time comes he does leave we then bring in Dawson or Wildsmith, that’s the whole point of having a squad.

If jos thinks either of our young keepers are better than KW at this point in time, he needs his head testing.

So when Hooper and Lee are fit they're not playing then because Jos hasn't seen them play before?

Surprised Bannan, Forestieri and Lees came straight back into the side so easily, Jos hadn't seen much of them at the time......Fletcher didn't have to wait too long for a start despite being out for around as long as Westwood.

Genuine question.

Does anyone here think Dawson has done anything that would merit him being dropped?

Dawson has done the job you would expect him to do but hasn't made that many saves you wouldn't expect a competent keeper to make. We have conceded 4 goals to 2 average sides and to be honest it could easily be double that due to a bit of luck and poor finishing.

We haven't got a leader at the back who is able to command and organise. an experienced head in goal could well be an asset if we continue to struggle to get results and don't look close to keeping a clean sheet. Nothing against Dawson or Wildsmith going forward but while we have an experience international goalkeeper available and being paid a significant amount we should be using him.

Wildsmith looked shaky at times when thrust into a difficult period last season, hopefully Dawson's confidence won't be affected if we continue to concede so many chances and goals.
