Was it more enjoyable...

Yeah without a doubt. Soicial media/forums are a breeding ground for people who are fed up/disgruntled/bored to air their frustration and it seems people really listen to them and dignify any view with responese.

It's a place where anyone from the comfort and safety of their own home can say what they want about who they want with very few consequences and very little care for any knock on effect there words might have.

In my day (lol) you spent an hour looking around teletext for team news, often missing page 30 that contained SWFC news and having to go around the pages again, or you bought newspapers and it was exciting waiting for reports on a Sunday morning.

Internet and todays 'instant culture' has certainly diminished the joy and excitement of 'Goals on Sunday' highlights programs and reading reports as well as considerably making SWFC (I guess all clubs)  a more negative entity in general.

I think Social Media is "giving everyone a voice"

And giving everyone a voice, makes this the "reality era"

As fans, we are easily controlled. Give us something to positive about and we will be positive.......and visa verca.

I would also argue, when it comes to £90 memberships. Most fans are realistic and not negative. It's realistically disgusting.

Negative people would wish for Chansiri to walk.

''there seem to be a lot of negatives around our £100 shirt and £46.00 tickets''

''Just laugh it off!!''

To a point they probably will do

It'll be 'oh god they're moaning AGAIN' and pay no attention to it until it hits the tills

Not sure.

But the internet has given everyone free access to pornography.

Imagine the youngsters of today having to get their hands on an old Daily Sport just to have a shuffle?

They don't even know they are born.

Which sites are free ?

Just asking on behalf of a ........

The Green'Un was great and used to settle many an argument on the pitch. When opposition were moaning about a penalty or an iffy goal you'd retort, 'Just check in the Green'Un tonight mate' to shut them up.

The Green'Un was rubbish in the Summer though. Nowt in it!

being a Wednesday fan pre-internet?

Pre-internet we were a successful team, so yes it was more enjoyable. The internet's boom started at the same time as our club's decline. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

The reason I ask is because, to me, a very positive person, there seems to be a real air of negativity surrounding the club, the fans etc even before a ball is kicked for the new season.

Is this fueled by social media/the internet? It’s so easy now to complain about kits, ticket prices, lack of signings etc negative rumours being spread about injuries, players wanting to leave etc

The internet makes players more accessible especially via social media.Whereas before the only way you heard a players thoughts and opinions was via the newspapers. Players couldn’t be contacted ‘directly’as they can be today.

I think as a fan I feel more ‘connected’ to the club, but sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Was it more enjoyable being an Owl when we only heard about the club via The Star/Green’un and by ringing Clubcall? Did it keep a lot of the negativity at bay?

I spent a friggin fortune on clubcall.

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

Technology has improved many areas of life, and the Internet has improved communications beyond imagination in the 70/80s.

Football information/views was only discussed between mates and via press/teletext, so you didn't get the extreme views and arguments available through instant discourse with anonymous strangers.

But it's not just technology or the internet that has made football less enjoyable, it's the combination with the want-it-now, X-factor, generation. An unrealistic sense of entitlement combined with the means to instantly moan to three quarters of Sheffield or beyond has created an environment of negativity. Even if we were in the premier league negativity would dominate: we should be higher up, doing better in Europe, etc. We have the means to instant and continuous information, so we want it. If we don't get continuous (positive) information, it breeds more negativity.

In many ways it was better when you turned up for the first match of the season and that's the first you knew of us dumping the plain blue, white sleeve, and reverting to stripes.

Well it was a lot more obvious back then, fewer people tried to make out they were owls when, in fact, they were fans of other clubs.    It’s more difficult since the advent of the internet but not so if you know what your doing. IMO Wednesday fans are too gullible and don’t play the game and no, I don’t mean football. How many of them actually go on websites of clubs incognito and spread Er... a little happiness? What goes around, comes around as they say. The piggies on here are chipping away already and the season hasn’t even started yet

The internet is what you make of it

If you go looking for negatives you can easily find them

If you see a negative, laugh at it and move on then the whole experience is way more enjoyable

This pre-season everyone's lost the plot so much that it's now just hilarious watching people screaming about a total non event at Mansfield etc

Just relax, ignore the negatives, and enjoy yourself

Stick to the funny threads and life's way better

Exactly but most people I suspect take things as genuine and face value and don’t realise they’re being strung along
