They have been a few rumours over the last 2 months that SWFC & KW have fallen out.

I don't believe them. With the ROI believing KW may be fit enough to make their squad; I fully expect to see Westwood back playing for us.

WHat rumours? From where? I haven't read or heard any, not even on here.

Having said that, I couldn't really care less about the Westwood rumour either way. Whatever happens he should be sold while we can demand a relatively decent fee.

Why is this even being discussed when there's been no article at all?

lol

Gotta say, my inference from Jon Buchan's knowing response is that there's something init.

He also boxed in Jos on this point in post -match interview- and covered Radio Sheff's back side.

It matters if we are being told porkies all season and , for me, deciding to spend £150 with club for 3 Easter guests against Preston.

Have to disagree pal, with a fit Westwood we’d be a good 6 points better off ..... having said that GK is our strong suit !

Yep I've read the ROI release.

They believe Westwood has a chance of being fit for an international squad in 1 weeks time; yet we've had no news/signs that he is ready for the SWFC squad.

Not odd at all coupled with many rumours that all is not right between KW & SWFC.

Katriene Miere brought this up at the Steering Group- I'm not 100% certain, but I thought she said they'd asked the ROI to clear things up after the rumour mill started when the squad was announced- hence this statement.

Is it just the usual rumour-mongers on here, or is there anything with a bit more substance to it?

Before a player joins up with his national team his club will have to send off a form declaring him fit - or otherwise...

It is entirely up to the national team whether they require a player to attend for assessment even if not declared fit.

Maybe Ireland believe KW close enough to full fitness that by the time off the training camp he will be fit so are keeping him in the squad?

Isn’t it also the case that the club can not refuse a player being called up for assessment to the national squad Scram?

Which again makes sense, if Westwood is close to returning to training properly they want to run the rule over him themselves.

Only under very specific and specialised circumstances can a club refuse a player attending for assessment at an international call up

The national association holds the power in that relationship

Cheers. Just what I thought.

All seems to be moving in the right direction, no?

So how do the big boys get away with it.  For years the big clubs have pulled their players out of friendly internationals, yet the players in question have played the last and next club games

Clubs can’t (or to be more accurate mostly can’t) withdraw a player from an international squad. It’s as simple as that. Big clubs don’t have special dispensation, all clubs are subject to the same rules.

Clubs can request the players FA to sparingly use them, or provide medical proof etc. Most international associations will want good relationships with clubs so will work with them.
