New ground v redevelopment ?

Recommended Posts

came up in the Hillsborough inquest but we really do lack turnstiles too. Not sure how this would be remedied if the west was to be re-built as there is no room there for more

Do it need more turnstiles tho ?

If need be a couple more could be added just through the gate in the wall below the plod box and scoreboard

Apparently we can't open all the North because of safety concerns and putting away fans in there would force season ticket holders to move.

But there'd be away fans there and the police could decide on what is the safe capacity.

And for the season ticket holders then they'd have to move for a year. They can have a ticket anywhere else for a discounted price and also have first pick of their original seat for when the north is fully home support again. For a year and the future of the club im sure they'd understand

I think we should move and announce that Sheffield City Council have decided to demolish the Arena and have agreed to pay half of the cost of the new all purpose facility I think that would be well received by the whole city lol

The world cup plans seems to have managed to do it

Exactly. It's amazing how many people on this thread are blind to this.

Somehow I doubt the club went to some 3D designers and just said "remodel the stadium for us and put it in an animation. No need to worry about whether it'll actually be feasible and meet current standards."

And then it was put forward as part of England's World Cup bid. Would've been embarrassing if England had won the bid and it turned out that the concourses are too small, and there aren't enough turnstiles...or maybe the designs were actually properly thought-out after all and it would've led to a stadium that a) meets modern standards, b) retains its character, and c) costs much less than a complete relocation...

Hillsborouh has had its day. The kop and lepp are terribly dated. The fact rotherhams ground generates more non matchday income says it all. Football has moved on and if we want to keep up with the big boys we have to too

And I think it's this that will be the deciding factor. In the end head will rule heart. Having said that I'm sure that Mr C will be already looking into what improvements can be made if any that will make financial sense.

Hillsborough was a great stadium from the sixties,

hence we were always at the front of the queue for the 66 World Cup and FA Cup semis.

But, and here lies the problem, very little ground improvement has taken place on

compass points E, W and N since then.

Kop: Staying dry but not seeing the game behind one of the two massive stanchions is

a backward step.

Advertising ambulance chasing lawyers on the hoardings is another.

Not quite as bad as NUFC with Wonga, but still bad.

West: This now has four stanchions and a legacy that needs burying with the wreckers ball.

It is also an aesthetic disgrace when approaching the ground from that end.

North: This once was a land mark statement in the housing and covering of 10000 sports fans with no

restricted viewing, is nearer 60 years old than 50, and it is showing.

There are many solutions without leaving to go to a new venue or complete re-modelling

and rebuilding.

I would dearly love to hear some positive suggestions how we bring Hillsborough into

the 21 Century and possible Premier league status next season.

Like Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, etc, have done with their relocations.

Or maybe they've modernised their traditional homes, just like we could do with the World Cup plans.

Exactly this. If people could actually explain how they make more money and how a new stadium would significantly improve revenue then they would have some validation to their argument, but none of them seem able to explain what they mean by such things as non matchday revenue and corporate facilites
