The reason Hooper didn't sign...

Recommended Posts

Like I say, he probably thought/assumed that he'd be in demand before the end of the transfer window (which he was with Fulham).

Also, even if he doesn't play for the next 9 months and gets released from Norwich at the end of the season- his chances are still fair to good that he'll be offered a contract at a bottom half Prem club or a top half Champ club.

But why would anyone train all week and not play, when they can play for someone else? I can understand to an extent, where a player would sit out the end of his contract if he was astronomical money, knowing he'd never get that amount again, say if he was at the end of his career etc. But if he's going to get paid the same amount, I can't see how he'd rather sit it out than play.

Well if hes paid £40k for a box he isnt going to use - of course hes out of pocket.

Bet his family got a lot of fun out of using the box so they could watch him sit on the bench

Or was he using the bench himself on matchdays, he didn't play very often.

It's a joke for anyone to say he'd be out of pocket, if this is true. He'd earn £40,000 in 9 days.

I'm over it already. It is what is is. And we've not seen FF and Bannan so have no idea of the impact they'll have. FF to play behind Nuhiu or Joao and you just never know...something could click.

If not we have a loan window that we can utilise. Plenty of strikers still out there....Hooper being one of them if he's not too hurt over us ''not giving him a box''.

It is the hope that kills you really. If we weren't told/didn't convince ourselves that we had the pick of Rhodes, Vydra, McCormack and Hooper then we wouldn't be like this.

It would have been fantastic to get that elusive striker but there's never any guarantee that the player would do well for us, and you never miss what you've never had lol

I'm still over the moon that we've signed Forestieri.

Calm down FO :) its ok.

I'm guttered too BTW.

I'm not convinced any of this is true, but why is it a joke?

£40k is £40k. If I was him and 6 weeks ago Notwich took my money for a box and then farmed me out on loan for a sizeable fee i'd want my (completely useless) box refunding too.

He's taxed 40% isn't he? More like 14 days. If you work an average 5 day week, that's 3 weeks' worth of wages.

Would you be willing to give up 3 weeks' worth of wages when you could just stay where you are and not do that?

Look at the bigger picture. It's most certainly a joke, if true.

For some reason people don't realise it's all relative, they get taxed massively and have much bigger bills to pay.

Lee hendry for example was made bankrupt for not looking after his money

Why do you keep asking ridiculous questions?

How would me giving up 3 weeks wages, be the same as him giving up 3 weeks wages?

Him giving up 3 weeks wages would be a drop in the ocean, especially if he could come here, play every week, and put himself in the shop window.

Playing regularly is a win-win situation. But if he took a year out and was out of the spotlight, who's to say he'd get a contract that paid the same amount at another club? And why would a guy pass up the opportunity to play regular football when he's way down the pecking order and a career is so short?

I call fact

Not bullshit

You're a striker, being paid £32k a week. You're playing for a Premiership club, but they've made it clear they want you out on loan as you're not getting a game this season.

You've bought and paid for a box for the season for family and friends to watch you play in the Premiership.  You've been told a deals been agreed with Wednesday, you're happy enough to go and play there - the money is the same.

Norwich refuse to refund your box. Wednesday refuse to provide a box for your family and friends to prevent you being out of pocket, even though you've explained the situation to them, and said as long as you get a box for your family and friends so you arent out of pocket, you're happy.

Wednesday have agreed to pay your wages in full (to Norwich) for the loan period, and agreed to pay a loan fee (to Norwich) as well.  You're getting nothing out of the deal (other than the inconvenience of spending 8 months living away from your home and the chance to play in a division you've just played your heart out to get out of....

Whats so hard to understand? Why should he be out of pocket?

So lets get this straight. We have offered to pay his £32,000 a week wages for lets say... 9 months. Everything is looking rosy until Hooper brings up the "box situation"

Norwich think WHOA WHOA WHOA. This cheeky lad wants his £40,000 back for his box. NO CHANCE. We will turn down the offer for SWFC to pay his wages for the next 9 months (roughly £1,25m) because we are too proud to refund his box (which in reality they could sell again, even at a reduced price).

What a load of codswallop. Doesn't make sense.

Footballers have some of the best accountants out there and I'm quite confident hardly any, if any , are paying 40 percent tax. I'm related to a former Barnsley player who was having part of his wages paid straight out to relatives, not himself , who he claimed were employees. This reduced his tax, and others were doing it aswell.
