Stadiums under construction thread

That looks like it's seriously penned in on 3 sides!  I'm sure it will be nice and easy to access!  Oh and zero room for expansion or development.  Very odd. Where is it?

There are going to be bridges across the rail lines for access.

And on the question of expansion, they only average just over 10k, so they probably don’t need more than the 17k capacity that the new ground will have. They were initially planning to have 20k capacity with potential to expand, but that idea was scrapped.

Yes but look at Brighton.  If they do well and get promoted (which isn't out of the question for them)  it seems a little bit short sighted.  But I guess it's better than a white elephant.

Just not bothered...

I am amazed any club that has ambitions to play in the premiership builds a ground of less than 20k.

Particularly when they are London based there are just so many lost revenue opportunities.

Brighton are the only gig in town and have a huge catchment area. London’s a competitive market. Fulham don’t sell out every week at 25k do they? And it drops to the teens whenever they get relegated.

I think for the London clubs the boost in facilities and opportunities to make revenue when the team isn’t playing is probably the biggest benefit.

As Dave said, Brighton have a significantly-sized catchment area all to themselves. They consider their local rivals to be Palace, who must be about 50 miles away.

Brentford has too much significant local competition. They won’t be prising fans away from Chelsea or Fulham, and they’d need long-term higher status to get fans away from QPR.

Also Brentford are clearly focussed on sustainable growth. They’ll be increasing their capacity by 40%. It would be a bold move if we built a new 55000 seat stadium on the off chance we got to the prem. Or even a 50000 one to double our average attendance.

Are the apartments around the ground part of the development? Based on the fact they are coloured rather than white in the modelling.

Good revenue for the club if so!

Will never happen. the Chairman wants to 'play at it' insisting he needs training facilities on sight.

shame, Freeman street is a s**thole and this would regenerate the area in a way shops (nowadays) never will.

Nowadays most new builds are moved away from towns to outer town sites. yet this one is the opposite. would be good.

Grimsby were talking about a new ground 20 years ago near the Laceby Roundabout.

They'll still be in Cleethorpes for another 20 at this rate.
