Heroes.

Recommended Posts

Who were your childhood heroes?

Here is one of my favourites. He scored 2 goals on his Hillsborough debut against Burnley on May 6th 1967.

We won 7 - 0 and it was the second game I ever attended.

He had the same surname as my Mother's maiden name, and they always pronounced it wrong on TV.

Withthem - when it should be Whitham, as in ham.

Just glad he didn't live at Hootybridge, too.

He moved onto Liverpool - never did much there, as I recall.

He's wearing the same shirt as I got for Christmas that year. Without the badge.

Jack Whitham.

Now, he could score goals.

Derek Wilkinson.   He had nice legs.... I was that close to turning gay.

Also Tony Kay cos he went to Shirecliffe school, like I did.  But he was a hard player. No finesse.... like a premier version of Semedo.   Also he was a bad lad- always in trouble.  And apparently a woman pesterer- despite being an ugly redhead. And he left us for Everton.   Hero to zero.

And Ron Springett.  Perfect gentleman and top keeper(though Westwood is as good as any since then).

Nigel Pearson - absolute warrior in the back four and utterly fearless.

des walker - the best centre half iv ever seen play for Wednesday. His reading of the game was exceptional, I watched him as a kid trying to work out how to play like he did.

Chris waddle - flair, charisma, ability - and a genuine nice bloke.
