Major bullet dodged. Not according to one prominant local sports journalist. According to him, Evans told his chairman that he wanted to come to Wednesday. The chairman then slapped a large compensation fee on the deal, which Milan refused to pay (in excess of half a million pounds I believe). At the time, Stuart Gray was doing an admirable job in his caretaker role, so Milan decided (eventually) to appoint him instead. When the deal for Evans fell through, Rotherham of course took the opportunity to make out that Evans never had any interest in signing for their bigger, better neighbours, which no doubt won him a few brownie points with their fans. Evans always comes out with comments like this though, saying we're a big club or a really good team. Then, when we beat him, he cries and says there are loads of bigger clubs in The Championship.
