Tying up play-offs before the last game

Recommended Posts

Don't know if this has been mentioned and I certainly don't want to contribute to the fearmongering and the general sh!t your pants panic of OwlsTalk but we really need to sort out our play-off spot before the Fulham game.

It may be out of our hands, we need Reading or Leeds to proper balls it up and of course to get results from our next three games but if we go up against Fulham with a must win we might end up doing a Brighton.

If we don't get the points required from the Fulham game, players will be tired for the play-offs, maybe some nagging injuries and suspensions too. Not taking anything away from what our team did on that Friday evening last May but you could tell Brighton were knackered and were missing key players.

Hopefully we can go into the Fulham game playing bit part players and a few youths, who amongst us would care if we lost if it was to the expense of Leeds United?

I know I should focus on swfc and our run in, and hoping we get to play the Fulham  game with no pressure.

3 points Monday is essential, and put the pressure on the other teams for the following Saturday also, the thing is I just can't see anyone dropping points around us either...it's going to be nail biting stuff

i personally think it's Leeds who should be looking over their should Bartley 1 yellow off a two game ban and Jansson 1 yellow off a 3 game ban. It would be ideal for both of them to pick up a yellow in the remaining games.

No way will we be 4 points clear of them by then

I said it the other day, if Fulham need to come here and win they'll get battered. We only struggle against teams who park the bus, anyone who goes toe to toe with Wednesday gets beat

I agree. We need it sewn up by then.

I think our trouble all season has been goals and if you look at fulham's recent games (and overall season), that is where they specialise.

I'd much rather be bored to tears watching our B team get hammered than have to rely on that last game to secure our playoff place.

I doubt we'll be resting players even if we've clinched a play off place by then.

Last year was different,  we went into the Wolves game knowing that we were guaranteed finishing 6th whatever happened therefore we played the fringe players.  This year we could well go to the last game with a chance of finishing 4th or 5th therefore affecting the play off opposition and possibly home advantage in the second leg (I'd rather be at home second despite it working out alright in the end last year).

Id love it if we need a result on the last game

Keep the pressure on, keep focused, players on their toes all the way to the Play Off Final.

I like your optimism but Brighton and Brentford were happy to go toe to toe with us and beat us convincingly.

I think with Fulham they go toe to toe and do quite well. They aren't really a team that can park the bus

Yes 2-1 wins were really convincing bearing in mind Dunk was MoM for Brighton and the Brentford keeper was MoM for them.

I think it's going to the last game... Reckon we'll lose on Monday and Fulham will win... So that will be a point behind... Fulham were lucky yesterday

Not sure how Fulham were lucky yesterday but certainly winning at Norwich is a sign that they aren't going away and it will come down to the last game, for us, Fulham and one of Reading or Leeds I reckon.

Though we may need to get 2 wins and a draw from the next 3 games even just to have something to play for on the last game. Which is a scary thought

Personally I thought yesterday's performance/result was just as impressive as the Newcastle game in the sense, we were under pressure to get a result and despite Cardiff's stubbornness we stuck to the task and got just about what we deserved and I think this stands us in good sense for the run-in.  Reading and Leeds may feel the pressure and Fulham are without Chris Martin for three games where we have the experience and quality to make it count.
