Sheffield FC, the World's First football club, have submitted a full planning application for a new 5,000-capacity stadium to the city council. The stadium will be produced in partnership with Sheffield Eagles, the city's professional rugby team, encompassing professional football and rugby league facilities, as well as a cricket pavillion, multi-use pitches and a football museum. matthefish2002
I think both Sheffield FC and Sheffield Eagles have had a few false starts in finding a permanent base within Sheffield. Eagles even had to play home games in Wakefield for a season. Think was also a plan. for Yorkshire County Cricket club to play one game here a season but I will believe that when I see it. Hope this comes off. Knowing how these sort of projects rarely run to plan to have it open in September 2025 seems a bit ambitious but you never know.
WimJunk
I think the football museum will basically be a room, rather than anything too fancy.

Popular Post doubleo
City Council have missed a trick over the years. They should have been backing this club, the home of the most popular sport in the World, promoting the City etc, encouraging visitors and investment. Hope they can get the planning through quickish. 12
Ian
A 5,000 capacity stadium and sharing the pitch with a Rugby team doesn’t sound like better facilities to me 1
punkskaphil
You're right. If there's one thing we desperately need at Hillsborough, it's a cricket pavilion.

Pulcinella
Always have had a soft spot for Sheffield FC. If we ever ceased in our existence and an alternative didn't replace it, Sheffield FC would probably be my team.
Bulldog
This is still yet to be approved, the plans have been in place for years. Personally, I can't see it happening as the traffic up there is horrendous. I travel that way to see Sheffield FC and the approach roads to the main roundabout are always packed. "A few thousand more cars every weekend?" "Er, no thanks!
