Everton

The problem is that too many of the "big" clubs need a reset - and the extreme transient nature of football means there is never time allowed for that to happen

Everton are a classic case - rather than tear down, relay the foundations and start a thorough rebuild - they keep just throwing quick but expensive pollyfilla everywhere trying to cover the cracks - meanwhile the building is collapsing

Simon Jordan was talking about Everton this morning on Talksport. He said that Farhad Moshiri went into Everton with the best of intentions but didn't know a lot about running a football club so ended up being badly advised, buying players they sometimes didn't need on inflated fees and wages.

Sound familiar?

Not withstanding your choice of words, is there situation reflective of the process they're in with building their new ground.

Bit like Spurs were/are

Everton for years seem like a club without a particular strategy when it comes to recruiting players. Just an expensive mismatch. Like the time before they got DCL, they had a tonne of 'number 10s' and no strikers.

They then tend to spend a lot on players that they then can't shift and pay them a huge wage, players like Bolasie and Tosun

Hiring Benitez was always going to be a wrong move.  Like if we got Wilder or Warnock.  They should have gone for younger, like Potter at Brighton or even Dyche. Plenty of non Liverpool legends that could do a job there at a big club, and get slightly more leeway from fans during tough spells when best players are unavailable.

Just an uninspired hire of someone who just desperately wanted to be out of China and couldn't wait anymore for his beloved Newcastle.

Was always doomed, this pairing of convenience

They've fired Brands. Looks like Benitez may be getting more control.

Rafa knows how to play the game when it comes to club politics.

Not sure how much difference it makes when the bloke calling the shots (Moshini) doesn't have a clue what he's doing.

They showed some actual fight and spirit tonight, which is something that Everton were never short of back in the day.

Cracking winner.

Arsenal missed a couple of sitters, but I think Everton deserved that.

Would love for them to go down. One of those clubs that’s just been drifting along for years.

Really?

Everton are a proper club. I know they haven't won much in recent times, but there were excellent for much of Moyes' time there.

Find them far more agreeable than the other lot across Stanley Park.

I don’t have anything against them, I just think it would be a real novelty (have they ever been relegated?) to see them in the Championship and it might even shake them out of their slump.
