Give Thompson the job

Recommended Posts

Needless to say let’s leave things as they are. Not even give Thomson the job. Literally just leave him in temporary charge on a rolling basis, right through until we are promoted to the Premier in 2023.
Just as an aside I wonder what Tony Pulis makes of our form since he left? He must at least have a look at our results and think ‘Jesus Christ, I am a bloody awful manager’ when he sees us winning game after game under his temporary replacement 😂

I'd prefer to just let him get on with the job of coaching and sorting the team as we are till the end of the season.

Theres always pressure but at the moment its the least amount for him under present circumstances.

Everyone thinks we're going down and he's just the caretaker preparing the side and holding the reigns till Dc makes an appointment

You see so many caretaker managers do brilliantly, well until they get the job full time or till the end of the season.

If we announce this it ramps that weight onto his shoulders to Have to be successful becouse it's his job and he's responsible.

That's why I'd rather we leave it and maybe interview candidates with a view to taking over if the situation starts to unravel.

Theres going to be managers out of contract or who's contracts expire then which gives us a larger sea to fish in.

Guest Bulgaria

It's interesting reading the posts from around a month ago when we were doing ok.

Don't change things.

Give him until the end of the season.

Etc.

Maybe that's what DC thought.

I never believed Thompson represented our best chance of staying up, but if we were going to stick with him, at least bring in a coaching team to work alongside him.

Expecting an inexperienced manager to make do with less than all of his competitors in the race to beat the drop is crazy.

Not everyone in this thread agreed with the OP.

Thompson's initial results felt as much like the players were relieved not to be under Pulis anymore rather than any great tactical improvement, the Derby win was very fortunate for example. Once that wore off and the need for tactical input and leadership became more of a requirement there was a fear we might be found wanting by just seeing how it goes under an academy coach with no experience or authority given that he hasn't actually been given the job.

That’s exactly what the buffoon thought.

Well we all know now where it’s all going to end

NT,s honeymoon is over and he was only installed as someone to throw under the bus as and when.

Yep and while our fcukwit of an owner has dithered, we've missed out on the 2 managers, Pearson and McCarthy, that could have saved us from relegation.

I think it was wise to leave things as they were whilst we were doing well. However,  it was never going to last which is why DC should have used this opportunity to hunt for a new manager ready to take over when the team started to struggle. You would hope Monday morning we get an announcement thanking Thompson for his hard work and introducing our new manager. Because that’s what a real owner would do - take advantage of the good times to prep for the bad. Unfortunately...

It made sense to keep Thompson in place as long as he was okay with that for as long as we kept doing well..... then if we got out of bottom three and decide what you want to do for next season. If things drop off bring someone in.....

Right now you need options of who you can get..... you need to Give them a year contract  if that's what it takes and still go with what you want for next season.... it's ruthless but if they kept you up but we're not the long term vision then sack them and move on..... wasting money is something we have done a lot of but if it kept us up it wouldn't be.... we loose against you town and we are practically down.... you may need to sell the job as getting us back up next season and them coming in now to get things started early........ they would need a long term vision..... even if Mr C sells up it makes more sense to do whatever it takes to keep up

Agree. Four losses in a row inconclusive that it's time to change..but we do not know how short of loose change DC is..could not afford to mend the undersoil heating could he?
