You can tell a lot of us haven’t watched much League 1 football the past few years reading some of the above.

Very much like us and some of the players we have released, other clubs might think they are good due to their names, when  in reality we know they are garbage in the main.

Sunderland players some are saying we should look at are awful. As bad as those we have released.

O’Nien and Power would fit right in with last seasons crop of crap. Slow, pedestrian and lacking any brains.

This may surprise some seeing as he’s just scored 30 but Wyke is also poo. No idea how he managed that many goals but if he can we should be doing all we can to hold onto Windass as he might score 60.

I have seen a lot of Sunderland and why would we want to sign any of their proven failures. Three years in a row.

We should be trying to step away from signing failures. Also just cross referenced my own thoughts on their players on the Sunderland forum and all check out.

I actually trust Moore to get this right. He knows the league and links to James from Doncaster full me with more confidence as well as Callum Morton who I think is nailed on.

It’s an obvious thing to say because we’re in a different division but even if we had stayed up I still believe the profile of players we’ll sign under Moore will be very different to any other time during the Chansiri era.

Some players just need a fresh start elsewhere sometimes to reignite their careers. Different managers/fresh faces eg. Things go stale as we very well know.

Just look at those that left us for the Blades in 2004. Geary, Bromby, Quinn. All part of 4 years of failure. All ended up in the Premier League 2 years later.

Not suggesting all of them will do that or even ours will, but there not all bad footballers.

Very true. My concern is they would be going from one car crash to another. These Sunderland players have proven they can’t handle the pressure of playing for a big club with expectation, even if unrealistic.

Bromby, Geary and Quinn the same, couldn’t handle a big club so left for a tiny one. Also we were a car crash too like now and they were better run club.

We have to, have to. sign players with the right mentality.

I really hope so. It’s been making me feel a lot more positive that we may start seeing a different profile of player signing for us.

The empty promises from Monk last pre season about trying to navigate this way felt empty then, but with Moore I feel it has a chance.

Yep, correct mentality is huge

I’d still consider looking at likes of Matty Lund and Jimmy Keohane , although involved in Rochdale relegation had great seasons individually and would be hungry for success at a club our size compared to Rochdale

Both are in their 30's and would have no resale value, but both are good league One players. Lund spent lots of time out injured last season as well. As I said many times before, in my opinion their best player was Aaron Morley. Just couple of months older but much more experienced and better player than Alex Hunt, terific passer of the ball and set-piece specialist who would fit perfectly in 4-2-3-1 formation that Moore prefers.

Fair points, and your also probably correct on Morley

A couple of players ready to hit the ground running in league one I feel would be beneficial, accept no re-sale value but I think could make a difference, injury’s are a concern for any potential signing , but I think if we are truly in the bargain bin we could do a lot worse than them pair

What makes you think Morton is nailed on? 2 goals in 17 games last season, doesn’t sound great.

Think he’s had a bad injury,  got 5 in 9 at Northampton in his first Loan from WBA ,  heard he’s a talent and maybe gonna get linked with most of WBA’s u23’s due to the gaffers connection

Had a few non serious injuries and couldn’t get back in a settled side. Has a lot of potential and I have heard we are interested.

A few players free after leaving Championship clubs that could be worth a look at.

Corry Evans (Blackburn) Midfielder. Johnny Evans younger brother. Always looked a good player when I've seen him play. 30 now but a regular for Northern Ireland.

Liam Walsh (Bristol C.) Midfielder. Only 23 and starred in Coventry's League 1 promotion season in 19-20 when on loan from Bristol C.

Highly rated when a youngster at Everton. Bristol C. paid £1m for him.

Achraf Lazaar (Watford) We all know about him, 29 now but we need a left back. Could he be persuaded to drop into league one?

I'd take a look at Olamide Shodipo

Contract ending end of his week at qpr

Spent last season at loan at Oxford

9 goals and 2 assists in 23 games

23 year old winger

Think the first thing the club should be doing is getting Malek in as an advisor. Him and a couple of others on here seem to no more about players than anyone at the club.

Sunderland fans are pleased they have released a lot of players but I disagree on Power. Him going off injured lost them that play off final as he was the only one with energy and he was their captain this season. He’s not the most technical but we have needed a rangy box to box player for a while and only really had it briefly with Shaw and perhaps Luongo.

I don't know much about Power but agree that we need a more well rounded box-to-box type CM or even two to solidify the centre of the park as that IMO has been our weak spot for years and pulls all other areas into the muck trying to compensate.

Ideally I'd like us to sign someone in that role on the up, maybe a little well known/untested than someone that has potentially peeked at this level. I'm also hopeful Waldock may be that type of player too. I'm sure Power will be a decent earner at this level, for his cost maybe we get two slightly less known, younger options?

My old boss is Sunderland season ticket holder and goes to all away games too. I've asked him for his thoughts on Max Power, as follows...

"He's not Max Power anymore, his legs are shot. Good talker on the pitch and a nice guy. He was our captain under Lee Johnson but does now lack pace and not what you would describe as a creative midfield player. Does get the odd goal but most mackems realise we need a completely new midfield so right to let him move on. League 1/2 prob his level".

Power looked much better player in his first couple of seasons with Tranmere at the start of his career than he does now. I would stay well clear of him.

Sunderland fans don't rate him according to their fans forum. Suggest last gasp shot from 35 yards into row Z summed him up.
