5 Subs.

Recommended Posts

Completely agree.

Given some of the recent things that have been going on with operation powergrab (bigger picture), Rick Parry and the like, I do wonder why the EFL and Championship have been so keen to get this brought in (again).

The cynic in me thinks/fears this is the Championship teams kowtowing to the top 6 PL sides, who have been very vocal about the 5 sub rule. By doing this, they help the top 6, putting pressure on the other 14 PL sides to vote through the same.

EFL STATEMENT

Following consultation with Clubs, the EFL Board has agreed to increase the permitted number of substitutes to five in all Sky Bet EFL fixtures taking place from 12 noon on Friday 20 November for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

Regulation 33.4 has been amended to permit:

Championship Clubs to name up to nine substitutes in their matchday squad, with five permitted to take to the pitch in any fixture.

League One and League Two Clubs to name up to seven substitutes in their matchday squad, again with five permitted to take to the pitch.

I see it as a good temporary move whilst the schedules are what they are for a lot of teams, the lads didn’t have a proper pre season and things are all just a bit weird.

Also means more youngsters getting a sniff at the first team.

Yes, like everything, the top teams get an advantage. But that’s nothing new.

Will be great allowing Watford to have nearly their entire strikeforce on bench.

It don't mean they will get used though. Teams want to win matches and these extra subs are only really there to prevent muscular injures in players not to give teams advantages tactically. And that will help every team out.
