Pulis deal could be a LONG TERM one

Big, horrible Sheffield Wednesday.

Fortress Hillsborough! Bring it on!

"Boro were hard to break down but increasingly did little to hurt even limited opposition and were flaccid up front.   They were among the Championship’s best performers on the road but at home, where opinions are formed and where hearts and minds are won or lost, they were awful and the ranks of the dissident swelled. A 'Pulis out' banner as Boro fans tempers boil over against Bristol City. With every insipid Riverside show, every pacifist failure to go for the jugular, every tortured retreat to just hang on, the Pulisceptics grew.

Social media was awash with vitriol. The post-match phone-in was caustic. The matchday atmosphere was toxic."

Don't ever come on here moaning about the style of play, boring football, 0:0 draws, 0:1 defeats in a years time mate

Same for anyone else blowing trumpets and dancing in the streets over this appointment - don't start telling us how you hate the football next season etc

And on the flip side, don't come on here harking about well we are doing if TP's style does indeed work - which history shows it clearly has done.

It seems like Pulis is about the least popular appointment possible. Can we just take a step back from all the vitriol and give the guy a chance. If he is the new manager which is highly likely we are going to have to put up with him until he either fails and is sacked or he succeeds and is poached by a bigger club.

Pulis is more than likely a short term issue, supporting Wednesday is a lifetime commitment. This will pass like Jos passed and Monk passed, the club is still here.

Give Pulis a chance to do his stuff. If we are mid table by the end of the season accept that as a good result. We all knew this season wasn't going to be about free flowing, fast attacking football, it was always going to be about grinding out results.

It is what it is.

We have no option. But his record is of playing boring anti-football.

20/21

Get us mid-table

Rejig the squad

21/22

Play-off push

Further strengthen

22/23

Promotion

Seems genuinely possible. Arguably very probable with his record.

Have you been a Wednesday fan for long?

Usually, optimism is dispensed with after a few seasons of watching them.

Least popular on Owlstalk and Twitter which makes up a small minority of all our fans and those who go to games. A couple of wins and the vast majority will be delighted and behind TP - of that I’m certain.

Pulis is at the top end of a list of extremely poor potential managers.

He knows what’s needed in this division. There aren’t many on that list who do.

We don’t need entertaining football, we need points. Out of the contenders, he’s the most likely to succeed.

As one of my old coaches used to say to me when I tried to overplay from centre back.

’what were you doing messing about like that, stick a stamp on it and send it airmail !’

To be fair, there is way too much fannying around at the back these days. Leads to a huge amount of goals from CBs and keepers who can't pass.

I don't mind a direct style if we have the players to do it, and we actually get players forward to feed off the target man. Still unconvinced we will do that, because Pulis main concern is always keeping enough men behind the ball.

Just hoping the style will resemble Megson's time here. If so he could be a success. Talking of Meggo, he was his no2 at Baggies so why not now? Meggo has unfinished business here, does he think it would be too much focus on him if he came in as no2?

To be fair to Tony Pulis he generally always comes across well in interviews etc, it’s just his brand of football that’s frowned upon. Yes it’s a bit uninspired but If he can sort the club out & get rid of the fragile mentality we have at least it’s a start.

Can it get worse than our recent home record. Insipid would be an improvement. I'd say our home performances have been flaccid with no penetration..
