Connor Wickham

I too rate Wickham but his fitness and injury issues would be a deterrence. Also, I don't think he'd suit how we want to play, a fitter Wickham, like during the time when we thrashed Leeds several years ago would be ideal. I think we'd be best off looking for a more dynamic, fitter and athletic type of striker on loan from the top flight or a bargain from abroad.

I'd like us to go for a more all rounder type of striker, someone that can lead the line but also chase lost causes down, score different types of goals and give us legs upfront. Some of the best strikers at this level in recent years have been young strikers on loan from the top flight or bargains picked up from abroad or the lower leagues.

He's not been involved in Palace's friendlys against Charlton and Millwall so not in Hodgsons plans.

I know he didn't show much whilst on loan with us last season but wonder if we will be getting him back 🤔

Guess what, he's not been involved because he is injured.

Hope we don't opt to try and get him fit again.

He’s quality but he’s on huuuuge wages and his body has seemingly had enough.

For his sake he just needs to get to the end of his Palace contract, he’ll never earn that sort of money again. He must’ve been thanking his lucky stars last year  when they extended his contract to take in this season.

Someone in the Championship will take a gamble on him next summer, like we did with Fletcher. Hopefully he can find a remedy to his ailments and start putting some 30-40 game seasons in before he retires. He should be unplayable at this level, but his fitness stunts any momentum or form at the minute.
