I hope he recovers ok but not sure paying £250.00 to home test yourself out of curiosity when they is a shortage of test kits should be encouraged.

to be fair he’s spent that much time in treatment rooms he’s practically on the front line!!

What a joke that a professional footballer can get tested out of curiosity but a doctor that is self isolating because he/she thinks they might have it cant.

Maybe he could use some of the 18k he has been paid this week to pay for some doctors and nurses to be tested .. you know just out of curiosity

Showing no symptoms, but testing positive. Makes you wonder on the reliability of these testing kits.

Could have been sent a pregnancy testing kit for all we know.

In medicine, a disease is considered asymptomatic if a patient is a carrier for a disease or infection but experiences no symptoms. A condition might be asymptomatic if it fails to show the noticeable symptoms with which it is usually associated. Asymptomatic infections are also called subclinical infections. Other diseases (such as mental illnesses) might be considered subclinical if they present some but not all of the symptoms required for a clinical diagnosis. The term clinically silent is also used.

Knowing that a condition is asymptomatic is important because:

Think that's what they mean when they refer to a 'carrier'.

It affects different people in different ways. You could have it and never know.

He paid for it out of his own money. That's his own business and right to do so. If I could have afforded it I would have done the same a month ago when I had very mild symptoms.

Sorry Sam but that is ridiculous. If the lab has the means and capacity to complete tests then they should be working for the good of the NHS and not for profit and you shouldnt be wasting their time if you have no symptoms.

I have colleagues working in mental health services visiting elderly patients (with symptoms) at home and both the patients and nurses dont currently have access to testing because of a shortage in testing ability in the city.

They can if they pay for it, as is the case with a lot of medical care.

My brother had contact with somebody who was then confirmed to have the virus, so despite showing no symptoms at the time he self-isolated and bought one of these kits, which came back positive. He’s been ill for about two weeks now.

Honestly footballers aren't coming out of this in a good light at all.

Not only are they moaning about not being able to afford paycuts like most of us who are or will be hit by a 20% cut they are now they are also showing no symptoms at all and testing positive. Ok Sam Mate.... Ok

You’re right. It would’ve been much better if he’d not tested himself and then gone round unknowingly spreading it to people.

Could go out for exercise or to buy groceries and unwittingly spread it to people. By testing and knowing he has it he can fully isolate to prevent spreading it.
