Impossible to tell if there was contact but 2 things. The ref gave us position by blocking their clearence and when Lee went down it was willem Defoe straight From the platoon movie.

I was 12 rows from front in lower tier directly in line with tackle and was stonewall penalty.

Row N was my seat. Why would Lee dive when he had got past his man. Pen for me ref bottled it as he did with the handball that should have been a red.

Trying to be unbiased. It's not as clear cut as Carlos makes out. The angle on the replay isn't great, not saying he dived but it's possible he was looking for the contact.

What about that challenge on Fletcher, too, just before the ball was headed off the line? Another nailed-on penalty and a straight red.

The ref applied the "Forestieri Simulation" rule specially adopted by the Referee's Association for Wednesday games.

I was there. Lee was taken out directly in front of me, less than 10ft between us. An absolute clear cut penalty. He had the better of the player and was running towards goal before he was blatantly fouled. No comment about the rest of the garbage served up.

We were in the box behind you...he dropped his shoulder to stand the defender up first and then went past him as the defender panicked and stuck a leg out...never in doubt apart in that refs mind who bottled it

My thoughts were exactly that Lee is not a diver.

 

I think this is why the bench got so enraged too.

Like many others on this thread, I too was in line with it at the front of the upper tier.  The most obvious penalty you will see, and like someone else has said, you heard the contact.

A bloke in the pub I was in at Scarborough even says it was a penalty and he was a Leeds fan

I'm in central France, have done the geometry and calculated that I was definitely the most in line. 

Clear penalty even without my glasses on.
