Sean Morrison

Recommended Posts

Bidding for Morrison is a bit worrying. After last seasons debacle I'd hope we have leant our lesson when it comes to recruiting.

Don't get me wrong Morrison may be decent, but we need better than decent and for 3 million I'd rather we look at other targets.

Manga free

Ayala

Flint

Liam Moore

Taunzebe (spellcheck) on loan

Caulker

Any of these on paper seem a better option at Cb than Morrison.

Sean Morrison doesn't exactly have silky skills but he's a traditional no nonesense centre half who would add height to the side. Not sure he'd be a 5m quid player but I can see why we're interested.

Despite what some say he would offer something different

This is true, but I'd wager most of us have seen more of him than Carlos

But rather less than his support/scouting team you'd think. Mind you you'd also hope that this year's recruitment will be rather better than last.

I completely agree with what you're saying...but Caulker? Reported attitude problem (England caps get given out for fun these days too), at least Morrison is a captain and might have a bit of bite. Caulker probably thinks he's achieved all he will achieve.

Im sure we all really know as much as we do about Morrison and Flint too...

Yes I think we lack a couple of beasts. One at CB and one in midfield.

Yes, I'm not sure there's too much joined up thinking going on with Carlos/scouting/recruitment teams Last season was confusing, and that's being generous

Good find.

But how can a defender realistically have a weakness for tackling.

I actually wouldn't disagree with that as a weakness for Lees. Hes strong in the air, blocks & gets in the right position most of the time which is what makes him a good defender.

But when a player runs at him he backs off & can easily be beaten. I suppose a strong tackler wouldn't back off so much & would instead make a tackle.

I'd add Bartley to that list.

Just goes to show how far we've come that our fans aren't happy we are bidding £3m for Cardiffs 26-year old captain

Last time we signed a defender from them it was 34 year old Darren Purse on a free transfer as we didn't have a pot to pee in

Don't know much about him but Tom Lees split opinion when signed and we all know how good he is.

It's about getting the right personel.

How many people would've taken any of Huddersfields players at of this time last season? None. Yet they're all in the Prem now and ours arent.

Sometimes getting a good player like Morrison and putting them in a better team like ours will bring out the best in him and players around him.

Just gotta trust DC and CC. Be thankful we have some money to spend and have faith in the new signings.

Or getting more leftfield players like Huddersfield, show more imagination and be lest reliant on splashing the cash

Towering centre back. Club captain, so an obvious leader. We ain't paying big money for him not to partner Lees.

I for one wouldnt be that disappointed with this.

In Carlos we trust.

Exactly.  Wasn't necessarily pleased with our patchwork backline last season.  Nice bit of strengthening.  Time to seal the deal.

More imagination?  Like lucking out on premium Chelsea-Man City loanees?

Outside the box team building from Huddy.

Yes, this strategy worked for Huddersfield and you've got to applaud them for it but the fact remains if penalty shoot-outs didn't exist then they'll still be in the championship.

As for us, the opinion that our recruitment is not up to scratch pees me off a little bit. I think because we've spent a lot of money, people expect instant success. We all know football doesn't work like that. You've also got to take into account inflation in prices. Adam Reach is never a £5M player in a month of Sunday's but to get him in that was the price we had to pay. I wish we hadn't have and in truth hadn't had signed him at all but that's my opinion.

Having said that did he helped us finish higher than we did the previous season, as did Fletcher, Jones, Sasso, Rhodes etc. So the recruitment over the last two seasons has taken us forward. If future recruitment continues to do this then it won't be long before we get to the Premier League.

If and when we get there then recruitment targets and strategy would obviously change and then we'll see if we have the wherewithal to progress further. Interesting times ahead?
