You give the guy more than one year. Just supposition on your behalf . firstly dod you think Carlos would sign anyone he doesn't rate , also if his work permit is only for a year at a time we would be foolish to give him any longer . thats why JJ always had a year extension at a time . I felt last year on the ball he looked uneasy, but why as it taken till now to sign him? Surely this was a plan in pre season? Jesus how frustrating are comments like this? Just because we want a player it doesn't mean it'll happen straight away. The guy was under contract, they wanted a fee (£2.1M apparently). Negotiations have to take place and these take time. In the end we have secured an able back up centre half who knows the place and how we play. ffs!!

Paul..
Recent free transfer signings: Bannan 1 year deal. Westwood (in his prime) only a 2 year deal. Ross Wallace 1 year deal.

The fact we have only offered him a one year contract says it all really. Hope Sasso proves me wrong but I doubt it. This ^ We've brought in quality in midfield and attack but have neglected defence and should've built from the back. If we were really in for Hanley? We could get someone quality for around the same price or less. Such as Bruno Manga or Alfie Mawson or similar or the likes of Adrian Mariappa (on a free). No the problem at Burton was losing two out of three first choice centre halfs to injury pre match and a third during the game when it was still even , I would also say dumping two specialist centre halfs out of the squad before replacing them is one of the few mistakes Carlos has made. Not losing Semedo or the second penalty being given alters the game dynamic and it's just as feasible we could have gone on to win in either of those scenarios , Ultimately we had 62% possession and the failure of the entire team to convert that to a win is more of a concern especially with the quality of our forwards and midfield
GoldGigsChris
No point tying us into a 3 year deal - players want to renegotiate their contracts every year anyway

Not only does it smack of desperation...it has reached desperation point when you look at the Burton result. We cannot afford to lose to such teams. Hopefully we shall see yet another C/B signing/loan signing

You will not get any player to come to the club that equal Lees or Hutch (we don't spend that kind of money) 2. Our first choice replacement at centre back is our club captain and vastly under rated by our fans. 3. He knows the set up and style of play. There is no transition period needed. 4. Won't be a massive strain in the wage bill. People need to be realistic where we stand in this division. Our centre back options are as good if not better than any of the others without parachute payments. all of this. sensible if underwhelming, but exactly the right signing for us. Actually a very solid player, and if it was an option of Sasso on loan or £5m for Hanley, Sasso would be the better deal. Back four now of; Hunt/Palmer/Vermijl Lees/Loovens/Hutch/Sasso Pudil/Helan

Never played in this league before and you'd be asked to pay a 7 figure fee no doubt. We have some incredibly deluded fans, who they were expecting as a 4th choice cb (and who would have accepted that role) I have no idea As deluded as the one's who think Hutchinson is the best or one of the best centre back's in the division? Even though we're vulnerable to crosses when he plays at the back and could've given at least 1 penalty away in both of the first two League games. We've got depth and quality in midfield and attack. But not the same depth in defence or out wide. We can easily get outmuscled and direct, physical and teams with decent width can nullify us too easily. Expect more of the same until we bring in some physicality, height and width before the window closes.

elyowl1
I feel he's a good signing for what we need at this moment in time , one year contract , knows the team should be glad to be back from his previous comments. I also get the feeling we have been monitoring his situation since the end of the season and have been waiting for this opportunity to sign him up similar situation to Joe Bennett. I wouldn't be surprised if we are still in for another CB but it's obvious the ones who have been our primary targets we have been unable to get over the line. StudentOwl
Hutch is weak in the air? He's been as successful as Lewis Dunk and Timmy Klose at winning aerial battles so far this season according to the stats. Don't think he's been that bad from what I've seen... he's hardly the tallest but he wins more than he loses
Jim
Remind me, what was it like on here during the DA years because to read some fans views, you'd think nothing's changed. Sasso or Ashley Westwood? Kieren Westwood or Tidman? Abdi or McLaren? Bannan or Armstrong? Hooper or Graham? We had something to really moan about in them days
