RUMBELOWS91
Anyone remember the impact he made when he first joined? We were desperate for a striker so in came Whittingham from Villa in a swap deal for Ian Taylor who had struggled to make an impact. Think it was 5 goals in his first 4 games or something like that an it created a real buzz. Would be great if Stevie May could do the same. torryowl
saw his debut at everton were he scored twice and the next game against cov? were he repeated the feat .didnt score to many after that but when he moved back into mid field he was a decentish player and always gave his all .think his best game was against grimsby in the cup when he had an hand in all 7 goals...... Pompeyowl
One of my favourite players as a youngster. He was a hero at Pompey, banging in the goals, went to Wednesday and scored goals, went back to Pompey and banged in goals. He was always a top bloke aswell. Very kind and had time for the fans. He was a big time player with out the big Charlie attitide that comes with some of the Premier League players these days.

Same here-still serving but I get battered by the wife everytime I drink so I have stopped. Good player IMO-seemed to give his all in what was a fairly poor team

He didn't start playing football professionally till he was quite old in comparison to other players. The standard in the forces is actually very good, when you get up to the Navy, Royal Marine, Army and RAF sides. davey_wells
Bit later on in his career with us, but will always remember his goal at Newcastle that saw us win 2-1 and go clear at the top of the Premiership. He was a good egg, scored a lot of goals for us and you wouldn't find a harder worker.

mcmigo
Great player even in midfield under pleat and Ron second time round. Worked hard, scored goals. Would happily have a player as good as him in this current side
sheriwozgod
Some blue and white tinted specs here for me...................................................he was a decent striker with a good goals to games ratio , but as a midfielder he was awfully limited , offered hard work but very little else. Guest wilyfox
He was a very consistent player. 7/10 every week. His start was fantastic when he joined, 4 goals in 2 games.

matthefish2002
Sort of player now who would be hero and be having Guy Whittingham days but back then seem a hard working but average player.
Dutch McLovin
He was terrible !!! Great first 2 games then poo for years after that.
theowlsman
Came with a fantastic scoring record. 49 goals in one season I think. Ended up a midfield player instead of a striker because he couldn't reproduce that form at S6. I always thought of him as a bit if a let down tbh. That's because of his Army background - he was a young sub for the Army side when I was playing regularly!
