Musn't Grumble
Footnote to topic... Sunderland's League One attendance against Bradford today was 46,039. That's still over 3,000 short of the record set at Hillsborough for an English third tier fixture.

We do NOT hold the record for a 3rd tier attendance. April 7th 1947 3rd Div South. Cardiff City v Bris City 51,626. Hard to see that ever getting beaten. We would have beaten it if the police had allowed more fans in. I missed it cos I couldn't get a ticket.

Until August 1958 there was no 4th div. Just 3rd south and 3rd north. The Cardiff v bris C game was not in div one or div two. It was in the 3rd tier Southern section. I'd love us to have the record, but we don't.

A bit of an unforgivable mistake there Bournemouth, Aston Villa v Bournemouth a few years previous to the BDM. The game attracted over 49K but not quite so many as the BDM. OWLERTON GHOST
Back in the day it was a common thing to understate the attendance figures .... The ground was rammed that day ... Probably more than the official attendance ? All the same apart from the 91 final and 93 semi "The" greatest football match ever to witness as a Wednesday fan along with the other "49 thousand and so" .... It was special .......

Followed by the obligatory North East fans are amazing blah blah, not really though 2 cities 2 teams and a huge catchment area. Seem to remember empty spaces at the stadium of light last year.
