Official :6 English teams agree to Super League

Recommended Posts

I do find it a bit rich that the PL and UEFA are getting all sanctimonious about ruining the game. When this is exactly what they have done, did the PL give a stuff about the Football League? Champions League it was far better when we had the European Cup for Champions etc. They let the genie out of the bottle and are just worried about their revenues.

Don't get me wrong don't welcome thos new format as all competition should be on merit not, like spurs or Aresnal because they have a nice new stadium and American investors etc. Would have thought Rangers or Celtic have bigger appeal.

How about the Premier League kicks out the "Big Six". Then, for this season only, no relegation from Premier League, Championship, Leagues 1 or 2.
Promote entire top six from each of Championship and League 1. In League 2, Top 5 and Play offs for 6,7,8,9. Then from non-league, promote 6 into the EFL. If the Super League doesn't work out, the "Big Six" can only get back in from starting at the bottom of the football pyramid in non-league.

Bottlers.

The franchises will get exactly what they want. £250 million head start over the rest of the world before a ball is kicked. Disgusting.

They should take action but in terms of the Champions League it's a tricky one. If they chuck out Real Madrid, Man City and Chelsea then PSG become the de-facto winners.

They could then walk away with their first ever Champions League title and the next day turn their back on UEFA, say thanks very much and sign up to the Super League.

Those 'classic' big games were such because they were more of one-off big occasions. Seeing Real Madrid play Liverpool every season twice will dilute that.

As for faux outrage, I presume you are completely comfortable with Arsenal finishing 9th in England and deciding whether they want to invite 3rd place Leicester into their private party for a season?

The big 6 do often dominate but they are creating this through a combination of the biggest European clubs being in huge debt and the smaller clubs having the temerity to infiltrate their sacred top 4. Leicester winning the league was a huge wake up call for them, how dare another club try to break their dominance.

Classic games that barely anyone could watch due to the cost and limited availability of either a ticket or a TV package.

15million watched Man Utd beat Bayern in 1999.  over 12m saw Liverpool win under Rafa.

less than a million watched either of those 2 'classic' semi finals due to being priced out of football.  Those classic games are youtube highlights packages to most fans who wanted to see them.   When BT made it free access to the final that year 13m watched.

IF this new format delivers much cheaper or free access so fans can actually afford to see these games, I am all for it.  It will means fans especially here in the UK can actually see their team play on TV.

Might be what they were waiting for in cold hard reality.

Listening to the radio it's rumoured that Amazon Prime are behind it. The clubs are being called the scum 6 by the other clubs. Again it's rumoured that the clubs taking part in the super league will be getting around £4 billion

As for Champions League. Make it for Champions only.

Each country has Two qualifiers as standard. The champion of their top league and the winner of their flagship domestic cup.

Also entry for the reigning Champions League winner and reigning Europa League champion.

If In any one season the Winner of the CL or EL has also won their respective domestic league/cup then it creates a wild card entry for the most recent previous winner of that specific competition to have not qualified that season. Thereby ensuring that all entrants are true champions and not also rans.

At no point have they said that.

They have said they basically want a different version of the champions league that guarantees that 6 clubs who almost always make up the top 4 anyway enter automatically.

You will see once a decade a rogue team like Leicester or Everton sneaking in - the new competition allows that.  But are we really saying this is the end of football because it stops crystal palace having a 500/1 chance of getting champions league football?  Nonsense.

Once a decade?

Arsenal would be lucky to finish in the top 4 once a decade now - which is exactly why they want this.

At no point have they said they will up sticks and move cubs and matches? At no point did they reveal they were thinking about this at all or reveal prospective plans until they saw it as a done deal.

It is obvious this is just a short step to franchise football and English clubs playing 'home' games all around the globe.

You post so much guff on so many subjects that you are surely a wind up that I keep falling for.

Except it didn't, and that's just a pathetic excuse to bend over and let JP Morgan and the Glazers destroy English football forever.

Course it did.

games on TV that barely anyone watches due to cost (audiences on sky games are a 10th of what they are on free TV)

Tickets that are outrageously priced - over £1k for season tickets at some prem clubs

FFP rules, parachute payments, TV money share means those 6 clubs always get the top 4 places anyway - I can think of only Leicester once, and Everton once in the last 15 or so years where it hasnt been.

And we are now saying that this next action -basically a restructuring of the champions league - is the straw that broke the camels back?

Bizarre.

Completely misses the point.

Millions more people will get to watch a bunch of meaningless exhibition matches between the same group of football clubs (use the term clubs loosely) over and over again.

Whoop de do.

TBF UEFA don't really have much choice but to run this season's competitions to completion

The contractual obligations from sponsors and TV rights will ensure that they'll get bombed with lawsuits should it not go ahead

Alternatives are to award PSG the trophy - or reinstate clubs who have already been beaten in fair competition thereby totally discrediting the tournament

Also Liverpool couldn't be reinstated if the other breakaway clubs  are booted out so you'd have to go back to RBL who were schooled by Liverpool in the round of 16

Farcical

Can't blame UEFA for running their competitions to completion this season

I'm getting images of PSG winning the trophy and then Mbappe and Neymar making a break for it. They are then ushered into a limousine by Perez who tells the driver to step on it; as a bunch of UEFA delegates chase them.

TV rights and spnsors will demand the extra 5 matches they have paid for though

And they will get them either through UEFA having no choice - or through the courts which will be especially costly for UEFA

They're in a no-win situation

Not often i feel for those c*nts but they have no choice in this

Just shows that there are some fans of this though which is how this will be successful.

There's nowhere near as much support as Brexit as this, but it will end up like that. It will happen, it will cost a lot to watch these games on their own streaming service, games will be moved to different countries with artificial atmosphere added, and have 1am kick off times here because its in LA, Syney, Tokyo. Then the supporters of this (even though some will never say they supported it) will come out saying this isn't what I thought it would be

Not much new in this world -- in the past both Wednesday and the piggies have been ' invited ' into European competition via the Inter Cities Fairs Cup . It was not based on merit , just whether or not you were a city club , to promote trade  . We didn't do too bad in that in the years we participated .
