Second highest championship scorer and our only striker apart from Windass ( who I am not convinced is a number 9)  whom he seems to compliment and he gets dropped and brought on too late to make an impact. Ridiculous decision by Monk. Despite his poor form for us is still averaging almost 1 in 5 which is what Zahore got last season in a promotion side and we want to spaff 25k a week on him . Rhodes needs a run and if he gets it will bag 20. Kachunga is OK but his scoring record is bobbins.

Second highest scorer with 1 goal? Why on earth do people say stuff like this, like it has any context?

It’s almost as bad as those who review the league table after 1 match, baffling

He may not be the striker we want him to be but as things stand he is the only one who is capable of playing the position. It's not just about scoring goals. Against Walsall we were useless until he came on. changed the shape and we created chances. Against Cardiff it worked well and he took his chance. Against Watford we were better when he was on the pitch than after he was subbed off.

Monk's record of making effective substitutions aren't great and waiting until 5 minutes from time when losing the game to bring on a recognised striker didn't work.

I meant in championship history. Just checked and he has dropped to fourth but  he only needs 12 to be number one which he won’t get under monk. Hope you are un baffled.

He might have scored 20 in a season around 5 years ago.

Here we go again with the "Rhodes just needs a run in the team and he'll score 20" cliché...

He might or might not but he’ll not score sat on the bench. No point in putting him on the bench if your not going to play him. If your not going to play him and think he’s shiiite then don’t pick him at all. Don’t really understand Monks thinking.

Throwing Reach on upfront before Rhodes is an insult.

Well you've clearly been lucky in not having to watch Rhodes labour about the pitch.  Scoring precisely f*ck all!

His replacement Kachunga laboured around the pitch today and midweek.

question.

Who in wednesdays squad is capable of scoring a hat trick the quality of which Rhodes scored against Forest less that 12 months ago?

who was the last wednesday player before Rhodes to get a hat trick?

rhodes has been a disappointment since he came here, but who in our squad is more likely to score more than him?
Windass has to play either way because of his energy but who is this imaginary squad player who will score more than Rhodes. Don’t insult me by saying either Kachunga or reach

who is this mythical beast?

Sorry but you don’t give a player a run of matches based on what he did 5 years ago at another club. You give him a run based on how he performs now both on the pitch & in training.

He might have scored a goal this season but for me he’s not shown anything to indicate that buying him has been anything other than a complete disaster.

Rhodes is a busted flush!

We need him off the wage bill and bring in 2 quality players, easier said than done!

He’s not going off the wage bill - not happening- so we might as well play him

Brian Laws answered why.

Bristol City have both of their main CBs injured and were using a make-shift defence which was slow.

Monk went went for as much pace up front as he could to take advantage.

Rhodes will be back

And Brian Laws obviously didn’t watch Kachunga midweek then

Sorry mate, Rhodes might be one of the highest scorers in the history of the Championship but he’s only scored nine goals in the last four seasons despite getting numerous chances to prove himself (which have included a few extended runs in the side). He’s now a spent force.

You advocate giving him an extended run in the team but if he’s not scoring then he’s little more than a passenger. We can’t carry him in the hope that he scores; not when we’re on -8 points.

But why bring on Reach when we needed a goal??

He isn’t even a centre forward

We all know he's a bit rubbish, but surely give him a run of 5 or 6 league games and see if he can do anything.

Dropping him after two league games is pretty crap management imo.

Agree with this.

Ive been very critical of Rhodes - and even I would have given him a couple more opportunities
