False Position?

I’ve been looking at the “expected goal” stats this season, which showed us last season that we were really fortunate at this stage to be round about where we are now. So far this season, actual position vs expected position based on performance so far:

You got a link to this. I'd be interested to see who would be 3rd on XPG

This can be spun a different way though...depends how you look at it.  Explaination here:

Read it and weep:

Burnley, Boro, Brighton, Hull, Derby.

How many points out of 32?

Losing to Ipswich Charlton mk dons Preston Rotherham killed us more than any results against the top teams. Of which we got decent draws against.

No props to you

I guess you’re not familiar with the concept of 6 pointers then.

Also, the play off final defeat to Charlton was particularly galling.

Results against better teams are concerning.

Are they tho ??

If we look at it Preston didn’t do nothing to trouble us bar the Odubajo horror show.... then when we turned it on for ten mins we could have got a draw.

QPR we’re not good we were just very poor.

Yes how we get on against West Brom Leeds Forest etc is gonna be key to where we finish but realistically with the mess we’ve been in since pre season we’re doing well and things seem to be moving in the right direction.

If we can manage 4 or even 6 points this week then no one can say we aren’t where we deserve to be because to go 5 unbeaten against anyone in this league, and without our best attacking player is something not many teams will achieve.

Beat the poor teams and fail against the top 6

Its what we did under Carlos in the first season

We lost to the likes of MK Dons, Ipswich  and Charlton that season, our record against the bottom 6 wasn't great, we drew a fair few against the top 6.

The record shows we did enough against the lower teams to get a PO spot.

It also shows our lack of ability to beat the good teams cost us.

So far this season we have not done so well against the stronger teams so that needs to improve

We were never going to finish in the top 2 that season so the records show we did enough against all the teams at either end of the table to warrant a play-off spot. The records then show that we did enough to see off the side that were easily the 3rd best team in the division that season and the semi-final but simply didn't turn up in the final. The 48 games that went before the final had little bearing on that 90 minutes.
